Certain state offices of NIC are better than others...but not the PA office. Horrible.

I worked at NIC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Appeared to be an up and coming operation within PA...and appeared to be a good company on the onset.

    Cons

Too many management changes, people who came in after I was hired (within a few days) were micromanagers to the HILT and would fire/demote people without cause. The corporate office might be nice, but the Pa office is HORRIBLE. My advice ? Look elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a close watch on your state hubs/territories. Watch for the number of people leaving in a short period of time (whether by their own choice or not). There's more to what's going on with certain hubs/offices than meets the eye.

I have been working at NIC

    Pros

    reasonably relaxed work environment
opportunity to see results and efficiencies within your state and local government
    fully compensated health benefits package

    Cons

self-described as a software company but emphasis is on marketing and branding not software
upper management and project management have little to no software expertise
focus is placed on producing product rather than product quality
no room for advancement unless you're in project management or management - tech side is siloed and unvervalued

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your employees and put more emphasis on creating quality products and services. think about long term implications of contract negotiations with regard to impact on new and renewing contract terms. realize that the company is supported by its products and services, both of which are produced and maintained by your technical staff - not management.
