    Pros

good people to work with. Can leave office by 5:00. Chillax job.

I have been working at NIC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The work is challenging without being stressful, the company has tons of experience to draw on, and offices actually share expertise and ideas.

    Cons

Salaries are good but only about the middle-of-the-road for the web industry. Working with government can sometimes be infuriatingly slow. The company is not great at thought leadership around web tech and devices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the intranet. Provide a better more reliable technical infrastructure, and invest in more mobile devices or offer a BYOD program; we need to look like we're leading-edge in tech.

I have been working at NIC

    Pros

Great growth - strong collaboration - good people to work with

    Cons

Growing pains can cause stress (good problem to have)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to share vision with employees - when the employees understand the vision - they can truly own it and help make it happen

I worked at NIC full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great leadership and corporate culture. Individual offices have a lot of autonomy so you have to make sure you get in with a good group.

    Cons

Only client is State government so the process can move slowly and it can get very monotonous. Its not the most interesting client to work with at times.

I have been working at NIC full-time

    Pros

Work that you do has a very visible impact in the target area.
Company CEO is more accessible then most.
Benefits of a small team locally with support of large team for common functions.
since local teams are smallish, you get to learn and do much more.

    Cons

Some positions such as software development have little to no advancement opportunities since you are almost always going to be only dealing and doing things locally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communications between local teams to share knowledge and experience would be great.

I have been working at NIC full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - my particular portal has some great people
    - ability to work on apps and sites that are used by thousands to millions of people
    - yearly tech conference is a big reward for the tech team, well done
    - opportunity to work with state and local government to make an impact, something that is hard to do working for a normal corporation
    - company has no debt and is financially very solid
    - free health insurance is fantastic
    - company promotes charitable opportunities and activities
    - most existing egov sites and applications are in dire need of rebuilds, therefore there is enormous potential for continued work for NIC

    Cons

    - come in as high as possible bc raises are mediocre unless you get promoted to Director of Development, Technology, Operations, or GM-those are the only positions that are well-paid
    - company views itself as a technology company but the project managers and operations staff are for the most part technology-ignorant; they tend to be hindrances to a quality product
    - some people who come in with little to no experience are lifted up very quickly and put in important leadership roles without earning them; the result is that you often have people a few years out of college in charge of people with a decade or more of expertise with no real understanding of what they accomplished to get such a prestigious position.
    - the awards that the company covets are primarily the results of the creative leaders in each portal yet there is no career path for that important group of people, it is a literal dead end
    - operations staff are all given offices while the developers and creative staff are stuck in tiny cubes-it is disrespectful and creates a resentment culture. It is also counter-productive as tech staff needs the room for equipment and white boards and privacy (silence!) to work 1000 times more than any operations staff member

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - we make apps and websites-hire technologists instead of marketing and soft skills people
    - the project mangers need to be people who have extensive experience designing and developing, not people off the street who look good
    - if you lift up people, make sure everyone knows why and make sure there are real opportunities for each role (there is no career path for most developers and creative staff)
    - pay more to the people who do the real work-the designers and developers

I have been working at NIC full-time

    Pros

Good salary for the area, relaxed work environment, ability to telecommute when needed, share option scheme, good 401k and health insurance. Promotion opportunities exist but only really if you're prepared to move State.

    Cons

Training is almost non-existent. Much vaunted help with continued education simply doesn't exist. Even if you are on of the very rare people who manage to get it, the reimbursement is far from good unless you straight A everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting the help with continued education program so much when it's almost impossible to get (or better still make the system work ie. improve the reimbursement and accept requests). Push location management to provide proper training.
