Current Employee - Tier II Client Support Engineer in Denver, CO

I have been working at NICE Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Most staff are talented and brilliant (very under utilized and under appreciated by management).
    - Above average pay (but not much) and ok benefits.
    - Denver Tech Center location.

    Cons

    - Turnover is increasing, morale is low - work increases as more leave for better opportunities with customers or other companies.
    - Overtime: you have to log it regularly just to keep up with the workload.
    - On-call Shifts: if you want your personal time restricted, enjoy!
    - Sales (they continue to sell what the product does not do ... its all customization work that is difficult to support).
    - Management (they do not seem to care that customers micromanage employees).
    - Customers (they have begun to micromanage various support employees - not fun for IT professionals).
    - Work-Life Balance (OUT-of-BALANCE: If you are competent prepare to be worked to the bone ... 50+ hour work weeks are rather common ... customers are given whatever they want including employee personal time ... however, management will question your overtime like you are not working).
    - Lay-offs: yup - they have started kicking people - but only the ones that management does not like.
    - Product: overly complicated and difficult to support - it is a pile of products forced to work together (poorly).
    - Advanced support tiers: ignore escalated tickets and are impacting customer service.
    - Sr. Management in Support is not welcome at some customer sites - also, ignores the needs of employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Appreciate your employees (raise and bonus promises do not mean much).
    - Stop pandering to customers, and instead engage them like a business partner - it's time to align SLAs and actual fix times with customer expectations - they need to know that not everything is a quick fix.
    - Tiers 3 and 4 need to be held accountable for escalated SRs.
    - Your KPIs are unreasonable and signify poor leadership strategy (actually, I doubt there is a strategy as everything is tactical ... reacting to customer complaints rather than working to prevent issues).

If you care about your career as a developer do not work here. If you are looking for a 9-5 and a steady paycheck...

I worked at NICE Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Competitive Salary/Benefits
    - Lots of industry knowledge in the company
    - Attempting to implement Agile Development Methodology
    - Office space that promotes collaboration

    Cons

    Where do I start...
    - Poor senior leadership in engineering
    - Lots of turnover at the senior management level over the past two years
    - High developer turnover
    - Product stability is poor, underlying technology is aging
    - Not enough straight talk about what the problems are and how to solve them
    - Frequent spending "freezes" to hedge bets on revenue performance
    - IT support is poor across all offices
    - Low overall morale
    - All major decisions must go through Israel and not enough visibility in Israel about what happens stateside
    - Ridiculous "normalization" of performance ratings

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work if you are content with the results. Otherwise, start over.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits, but pay is not great

    Cons

Sr management is horrible--if you're not Israeli, you don't matter.
Product is half baked and impossible to support
Worst culture I have ever witnessed--they work the employees 24/7 with no regards for personal health/sanity and no thanks whatsover. They just want more, more more.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good Benefits. Immediate team members "get it" and want to help and provide value to shareholders and customers. Policies, procedures, and inconsistent management keep success from happening.

    Cons

    Senior Mgmt does not support
Americas organization and Israel are very much silo'd which makes day to day operations and support of the customer extremely challenging and a constant struggle. Little gets done without management escalation. No empowerment of employees. Be careful - one minute you're valued and the next you're not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your Employees and the work and accomplishments expended over the long term - Meaning look at the holistic picture of the value that each employee brings to the organization.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Comprehensive benefits package consisting of medical, dental, vision, company match 401k, and of course, every couple of months they throw you a bone with a useless "NICE" branded chotchke.

    Cons

Indisputably should be accredited as the poster company for the movie "Office Space." Disengaged upper management, grossly mismanaged outfit with high turnover and little to no regard for employee capital and well-being. Training... what's that? The atypical select few employees that have procured job security may expect a painfully dismal outlook with absolutely no room for advancement in the foreseeable future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise to sell any vested interest in this organization and get out before it's too late.

    I worked at NICE Systems

    Pros

Medical benefits are good, and they are available day 1
Vacation benefits are good, but you are discouraged to take them.

    Cons

Only Israeli nationals are promoted to executive positions.
Lack of investment in allowing employees to succeed in supporting Customers.
Asks a lot of employees, but does not give much in return
    Work/life balance is nonexistent
This is the worst place I've ever worked

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some of the money that you have in your profits and invest it in your infrastructure and employees. Start to respect the employees and not view them as a cog in the wheel.

Former Employee - Software Engineer  in  London, England (UK)
Former Employee - Software Engineer in London, England (UK)

I worked at NICE Systems full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Nice offices in a fairly good location.
Ideal if you enjoy pretending to be busy because it's unlikely anyone will know what you are doing.
There's nothing else positive that I can add.

    Cons

Many of the engineers are not good enough to develop the product they are trying to sell.
No budget/time to send anyone on training courses resulting in careers stagnating.
Most who were good at their jobs (technical or otherwise) moved on due to poor pay and incompetence.
A succession of terrible CTOs resulting in poorly designed software.
    Poor morale.
    Most time spent firefighting.
Salaries below average, no raise for ~4 years.
Made redundant and then screwed out of redundancy pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out who is good at their jobs and reward them. Stop replacing people with random Israelis.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It paid the bills, the commute was easy, and the team I worked in worked well together, but then we had too otherwise we would've all gone crazy.

    Cons

No training at all. Given a role without any guidance and training, then everyone acts surprised when things don't go to plan.
No real plan to support customers.
Work technical staff until they break.
    No clear management structure.
Not from Israel? Then you might as well leave straight away because you'll be left on your own to fail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop pushing the staff to breaking point, there's a reason why so many people want to get out as soon as you hoover up their smaller company into the global "NICE" machine.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Billion Dollar company with solid customer base in call recording platform

    Cons

    1. No career growth
    2. Lot of internal politics
    3. Executive Management in APAC is filled with ego and pride
    4. You got to an "YES" man to survive the culture, you will be shown door for any small amount of disagreement with management
    5. Difficulty in selling advanced application solutions - lot of implementation delivery issues with speech analytics, customer feedback managment etc
    6. Save your *** culture rather than encouraging innovation, creativity
    7. Not a partner friendly company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time for new management - some senior managers should have gone long time ago

I have been working at NICE Systems full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Money in bank so get paid every month

    Cons

    No pay rise
    No interaction with senior managment
No money spent on employee development or team building

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go and look at your culture and try and develop a different one to the one you currently have, there is a world outside Israel, we would like so team building days, team meetings etc, istead of the week in week out grind of staying in budget hotels and longhaul flights in economy but exected to deliver premier services.
