Niketown NY is ok

Shipping and Receiving Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at NIKE part-time for more than 3 years

ProsStarting pay is good
Pays for you to got to school if you are full-time and it fits into the list of curriculum they accept
Each floor dedicated to different individuals
New positions come up fairly often

ConsWorking Shipping and Receiving since October 2013 if you are Part time under( less than 20 hours mostly) according to corporate can only schedule us 4 hours a week
Abuse of power in terms of hiring and personal hook ups although you are asked to have people you know apply
No grace period anymore
Store can feel divided from S&R to sales floor as opposed to a whole team

Advice to Senior ManagementThis is more for upper management overseeing the company: Find a more effective way to delegate the budget so that there are not employees literally struggling and calling in constantly because you can only give 4 hours a week.

ProsGreat employee discount and really easy to shine if you're a hard worker.

ConsPoor work ethic amongst colleagues.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in helping associates grow as professionals (even if this is a retail position). People work harder when they're working towards something.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Garden City, NY

I worked at NIKE full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFast paced most of the time. Positive most of the time, then things(management) changed. now it sucks

ConsIf you're not a "cool Kid" you're not moving up at all. you need to learn how to kiss ass and then you'll move up. Learn it, Love it or Leave it.

The pay is good, everything else, not so much

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at NIKE

ProsPay is good, you receive bonus checks throughout the fiscal year, benefits such as paid time off, if you are part-time over or full time

ConsManagement does not follow protocols they say everyone should adhere to, difficult to advance on running floor if you are not a runner which is very bias becasue people can becvome full-time after just starting while others after working for years such as myself are still under appreciating and left at a part-time under position, and a huge portion of that is beacuse im not a runner, hard to leave your floor and try to move to a new one, managers talk to you a s if they are well programmed drones when you ask them simplistic questions regarding policy or protocol. They hire additional seasonals and then claim its beacuse our availability is not oopen enough and tell us after they hire them, cutting hours for permanent employees

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease listen to sales associates,we are the grunts butu many times we do the most work and know what this business is really lacking and needs, thank you

store need to to be fixed top down.

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee)
Elizabeth, NJ

I worked at NIKE

Prosthere are some talented people that work there. 30% off product. and free shoes every 6 months.

Consthe coaching policies need a change. if you have a bad egg it takes forever to get ride of them.
no support from district level on fixing store. only when his job was on the line did he act to change things.

Advice to Senior Managementget involved with the employees to understand them. it is an urban environment. you have to earn respect not just be given it because you have a title.

The real story

No Longer Employed (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at NIKE

ProsIt's a great company to work for. I've always admired the way they have Marketed their products and they will continue to be a top notch complany as long as they keep the innovation of their products a priority. Far too often companies like this get stale in their approach and as a result they begin to lose market share.

ConsThe hours were fairly long. Don't get me wrong. I love to work as much as the next person, however, at some point and time there has to be a balance between work and the home life. In my new capacity I have that freedom.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more objective
