I worked at NIKE as a contractor

    Pros

Great company culture and fun people to work with. There is always some fun event going on and the resources on campus are endless.

    Cons

If you do not have a corporate personality, this company is not for you. It is extremely competitive and many department, managers lack interest in their employees. Pay is not great compared to other companies, but they tell you it is because of the "great benefits". Also, if you are a contractor expecting to have a job when your contract ends, good luck. You have to be extremely diligent and cutthroat to get where you want to be ,and you can expect backstabbing from friends and coworkers in the process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at some of your lower management and analyze if these are the people who should be running certain departments.

I have been working at NIKE full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good Benefits for medical and dental. Free sneakers if you know the right people! A few good managers. Good travel benefits. Cafeteria has good food.

    Cons

Lots of negatives. Lack of cultural sensitivity. Nike doesn't promote minorities and doesn't recognize holidays for all cultures. I have had to work on the holiest days which is difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up, Mark Parker! You are clueless about cultural diversity. I am a senior leader at Nike with many years of experience. I am disgusted by all of the two-faced management activity.

I worked at NIKE part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Swoosh Discount
Great team chemistry with your sales floor
Meet celebs and athletes every now and then

    Cons

    Low pay
    No room for growth
4 hour shifts(when majority of the employees commute an hour to get there)
Will not extend or grant more hours, but will hire more employees to flex for 4 hour shift

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better pay, Extend hours, Communicate with your fellow athletes, and do not act as if you're better than us because you carry an ipad

I worked at NIKE full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay is fairly decent and it is not a difficult process to advance in the company. The passion around the company is overall one of the greatest assets.

    Cons

There are a lot of times where promotions are given out rather than earned. The company basis itself more off of who you know to get you to advance rather than what you are capable of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting good athletes walk out the door. Pay the people who deserve it and stop promoting those who become lackadaisical.

    Pros

    Discount, access to new product

    Cons

RETAIL, what they don't tell you is that they really don't want people from the retail side to jump to corporate, you are seen as an easily replaceable number, no employee loyalty, low pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop treating employees on the retail side as if they are "less than", as if they don't make up most of your revenue

I have been working at NIKE full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    great campus, cool work environment.

    Cons

office culture is very political and can tire out the teams, if you come from a big city, Portland is a quite a change and never really got used to it. Also, per the work environment, weekends, nights, it's all about pleasing leadership, and proving your value to remain. Teams often don't collaborate as well, they often try and get their own 'wins' and it just creates a strange work environment to be a part of. And a culture where they are honesty afraid to fail, anything that wasn't amazing is likely never discussed, not certain how you become that much better if you can't discuss what didn't work.

I worked at NIKE full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great physical work environment. Campus offers opportunity to work across functions and regions.

    Cons

Nike has become too big to care about their employees. Managers are focused on the bottom line at the expense of employee development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers have lost the passion to do what's best for their employees. Nike used to be about doing the right thing and being courageous enough to make mistakes. Nike is much more about following rules and not sticking your neck out. So many stories about employees being afraid of trying something new and innovative. Managers have become micro-managers, and employees are being held back.
