I worked at NIKE full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Working at Nike gave me a chance to grow as a person and an employee. For me, it was an intense work environment but I really enjoyed my job so that helped deal with the day to day intensity. Most of the people that I worked with were great. The team environment feels more like a family than just coworkers. Definitely high energy and fun work place that values its employees and expects the best from them.

    Cons

Nike seems to have a just do it way of doing business. There are no excuses. This attitude doesn't always make sense when it comes to training. Nike doesn't always make sure that people are trained and prepared for their next opportunity. They do not on board people well at all. It's sink or swim. They do not pay well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I haven't seen many excellent managers at Nike. Most of them are lacking leadership skills. The company should focus on properly training and hiring the right people to manage others. A bad manager can really ruin the work environment and the effectiveness of the people that they manage.

I have been working at NIKE part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The discount would the the first pro. This is my first retail job and I have gained a lot of experience working here at Niketown.

    Cons

Sometimes it's hard to move up if someone doesn't quit, move up, or get fired. Most of the time you tend to get stuck depending on what you want to achieve in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more considerate on a persons work value instead of how they answer questions in an interview.

    I worked at NIKE

    Pros

I am really into sports and the athletic culture so working here was a really cool experience. It was seasonal so I learned a lot and got to meet a lot of great people. Not sure if things have changed since I've worked there but overall great team.

    Cons

They weren't too flexible after the schedule was made, in regards to trading shifts and what not if something came up. But nothing else too negative.

Fun Environment, flexible hours, great discount on nike products. The managers were great, co-workers were great. overall loved this job.

    Cons

The pay isn't all that great. There wasn't a whole lot of training. the job was only part time. They don't hire full time employees at all unless you become a manager.

I have been working at NIKE full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I tell people that I could be doing my job anywhere, but the fact that I get to do it at Nike makes all the difference. the work culture and attention to keeping the brand experience relevant and central are second to none. There is a high amount of energy constantly flowing through the campus. This energy is coupled with a laid back atmosphere consisting of jeans and running shoes for work attire allowing for a sustainable work environment that keeps you going without burning you out too quickly. Even though there are a large amount of people working at the main campus it still feels like a small town in that you regularly see senior management walking about and still feel like you're in the thick of current Nike events and cultural milestones.

    Cons

While the culture at Nike is well known for being vibrant and energetic it can be taken too far too often. the phrase "that's a great first step" is used regularly. The meaning behind it is that while you may be doing a great job there is always room for improvement. While the heart of this sentiment is genuine and productive it can breed a certain level of paranoia relating to one's self worth within the context of contribution to the company. You may never feel like you're doing well enough at your job and start to feel at risk of loosing it. With Nike's popularity, there's always someone willing to do you're job if you don't wan it or can't handle it. I have noticed several instances where the "there's always more to be done" mindset is taken too far and the work life balance that Nike advertises is thrown to one side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I've had the privilege of experiencing Nike grow and adapt it's corporate culture for several years. My one piece of advice is to not lose sight of the founding reasons the company was built on. Stay focused on the passion for sport and not on the passion for image.

I have been working at NIKE full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent benefits for full time employees, tuition assistance, exciting and fast-paced environment, best dress code possible, team-oriented work place, freedom to make decisions about merchandising and processes autonomously.

    Cons

Mandatory open availability makes it hard to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Dating, graduate school, and part time work become next to impossible with the schedule restraints. Holidays are exhausting and something I no longer look forward to. Better to start w/Nike at a more advanced position, or else pay raises for promotions do not seem proportionate to the responsibility increase.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase compensation for employees who promote internally. Find a happy medium for employee availability requirements (consider REI's program).
