Great place to start, but difficult for long term growth

Account Specialist (Former Employee)
Port Washington, NY

I worked at NPD full-time for more than a year

ProsNPD is great for gaining experience in global research and hands-on approach with clients. After a year, it is best to move on rather than be asked to leave.

ConsSystems are obsolete and the company is losing its competitive edge against other, far more advanced research companies. The company is full of office politics with the mentality of "every man/woman for themselves" rather than working as a team.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not bad but not great

Account Specialist (Former Employee)
Port Washington, NY

I worked at NPD full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe work/life balance isn't horrible. Job security is good. Pay is good for a starting job (once established, other jobs are much better).

ConsThere are people that are too set in their ways. Younger staff is divided into cliques, which makes for a "high school mentality". Overtime is not compensated (you cannot always anticipate overtime and they won't pay you to get things done). There is a strong division between skill sets between the younger generation and the older employees. When you're fresh out of college and you have to teach your boss how to use basic functions in powerpoint, it is a little unnerving.

Advice to Senior ManagementSkills training for every level to keep employees on point are a necessity. Older staff should challenge the younger staff with more responsibilities (overlooked of course) and provide real feedback to show what is needed for advancement.

Not a bad company, but there are definitely better places to work

Account Associate (Former Employee)
Port Washington, NY

I worked at NPD full-time for more than a year

ProsGood work/life balance, good reputation for quality of research, laid back environment, nice people for the most part

ConsPolitics run rampant; difficult to advance past manager level; pay is not very competitive; too many silos of knowledge - ineffective intraorganizational processes; management has a strong tendency to play favorites with employees

Advice to Senior Managementthe growth in scope of research coverage you are successfully pursuing is coming at the cost of effectiveness within certain industries you cover
