Aside from some sub-par management, it's a great place to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCommunity feel, pleasant people to work with, competitive salaries, training opportunities.

ConsMajor changes taking place with new CEO have created an unstable feel. Some departments appear to have better management than others.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of the employees who have given so much of their lives to the members of the electric cooperatives.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good organization. A mission you can embrace and feel good about. Currently, undergoing lots of change

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe mission of the electric cooperatives is honorable. In the electric utility industry, co-ops wear the "white hats." For the most part, the employees are engaged in the mission of the organization. You'll find that your co-workers are top-notch. It is a very family friendly place.

ConsWith a new CEO and new senior management, NRECA is undergoing a pretty substantial change which isn't uncommon during a transition. In some areas, that change is wonderfully articulated. In other areas, folks are kept in the dark.

I think it will take about a year or so (2015), until things finally shake out and a clear leadership course will be set.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your staff.

Great place to retire, not the best for a budding career

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNice coworkers. Decent pay. Good culture. Lowest turnover I have ever seen.

ConsThe whole organization is built around lobbying. So if you do anything else, then do not expect a very dynamic job with lots of opportunity for growth. Combine that with the ever tightening of rules and allowances, it's just becomes an increasingly dull and uninspiring place to work.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet some actual managers whose job it is to actually manage. Once of the reasons the culture is so stagnant here is middle management is uninspired and not value driven. Executive management is out of the office. I see some real hard times ahead for this organization as it slowly slips into irrelevance....well the lobbying won't, but everything else will.

    It's just ok...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood sense of community in the asociation. People are nice to work with and there isn't a lot of competition, there is a team work environment.

ConsLack of promotion opportunities. We just had our first lay off and the association is cutting on a few benefits (including tuition reimbursement). They are now showing that they are like any other company out there. It's all about money and we cut from those who it will hurt the most. Oh also forgot to mention no casual dress.

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople are your most important asset.

Organization culture is changing and not for the better

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsAssociation pension plan
    Ability to telework
Business casual attire on Fridays and in the summer
    Working for a good cause
Good location (near Metro and not in DC)

ConsCulture is changing so employees are treated to new cubicles with very tiny workspaces and hardly any storage space
Senior management looking for ways to save money but they are in turn negatively effecting employee morale
Attitude is if an employee does not like it, they can get a new job

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees far better than you have been treating them with this restacking project

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
