I worked at NRECA as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The personal growth I experienced here was out of this world.

    Cons

For me, it was far but worth the trip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work. As an intern, I felt really involved.

I have been working at NRECA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

!0 years running as Computer World Best places to work. Good place for older workers. People bend over backwards to help each other. The company regularly invests in training and updating computer equipment. Management continuously tries to improve.

    Cons

Where much is given, much is expected. Also, hard to get into. Life is better for permanent employees than consultants (but isn't that true everywhere?)

I have been working at NRECA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The organization has a great mission. There are pockets in the association that are passionate about this mission so employees can feel like they are contributing to making a difference.

    Cons

The CEO is new (March 2013) and has hired lots of consulting groups to help review portions of the organization. People have been shuffled around without much opportunity for feedback. Those that are no longer needed get very little notice (a week or two). The IT department is in the middle of a benchmarking study where more big shuffling is likely. Probably won't make the Best Place to Work list next year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep employees better informed about reorgs as many people are nervous and anxious.

I have been working at NRECA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    great mission and purpose
great managers do not micromanage and let you do your job and do it well
    great work colleagues

    Cons

some members of the executive leadership team do not think about employees as resources and instead think of the $$$ (the bottom line) first
CEO is readying to retire; hopefully new CEO will be able to counter and control those short-sighted executive team members
if you do not have a great manager, you can be pigeonholed and micromanaged

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

value your employees as the amazing assets that they are; when you lose a great employee, they take their knowledge out the door with them

mostly people with degrees are hired

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

should inform former employees of more what is all going on instead of expecting everyone to know everything going on in the management section when not told anything.
