The company is very stable. They remain profitable even during a downturn in the market. They provide support to employees.

    Cons

You must be a dedicated, hard worker to succeed. The job requires long hours and can be stressful at times.

I worked at NVR full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Money, 401k and stock price, good internal policies and procedures and a very smart CEO who makes good financial business decisions. Room for advancement as long as you are a "yes" man.

    Cons

Politics, be ready for the boys club. If your a female you will never be equal to the men. Upper level male managers sleeping with young female sales reps. Lots of partying in the sales arena. Divisions always trying to hide things from corporate. Corporate does not appreciate people who have been with the company for decades but would rather trade them in for a new younger, lower paid, yes men. Longevity and experience are not valued.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the folks who have been with the organization since the beginning ... When Paul Saville was just a little Accountant shooting baskets in the garbage can at the Campbell's Run Road location. Remember where you came from and who helped you get to where you are today. If you are going to get rid of someone that has been with the company longer than anyone in the history of the company, at least call them up and thank them for all that they did for the company.

I have been working at NVR full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

$$$$, training, if you have a sales mentality and produce this is a great place to work. Company is stable and also profit driven so if you are in the home building industry there isnt a better place.

    Cons

Everything depends on what division you work for, no upward mobility, promotions are based off of relationships not merit, schedule sucks (but comes with the territory), they do not want anyone to think- execute only, new reps typically have to prove themselves and struggle in tougher communities but it can be done. (again expect this prior to starting).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most Managers already know the issues, but they know better to rock the boat or they wouldn't be where they are now.

I have been working at NVR full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

In this volatile industry, this company is one of the few that is excelling. There is no fear of downsizing and only growth. It is a great long term career oriented company.

    Cons

This company has very high expectations and a fast paced culture. I enjoy that challenge, but it is not for everyone.

I have been working at NVR full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours and no weekends. Small Fortune 500 Company. Experienced and reputation proceeds them.

    Cons

Very minimal vacation time thus very little family/work life balance. Must be employed 5 years before increase in vacation time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone should be treated equal, some members of the management team plays favorites. Company should work together as a team not against each other. Lots of disconnect, upper management should really talk to the people on the ground.

I have been working at NVR full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and ability to move up in the organization. The people are truly fun and quickly break down the typical work boundaries that keep you from having fun. There is also the ability to move around in the organization from sales, to production to other aspects of the business.

    Cons

The type of work is seasonal and cyclical. Your job and salary can be completely dependent on the housing market.
