I worked at National Australia Bank

    Pros

Fair to employees and empowering culture. Strong company values and excellent support of personal work-life situations. Willing to invest in technology to provide great customer experiences.

    Cons

Being a large organization, NAB suffers some of the same issues as other very large companies in terms of slowness in decision making and execution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to move the decision process to another level in terms of speed to final decision from initial recommendations.

I have been working at National Australia Bank full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

good culture (depending on what area you work in), management encourage staff to find secondments and move internally

    Cons

Melbourne is a processing/back office hub, good opportunities are rare, most people hate their jobs and cant believe they got a collage degree to do the work that they are doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Whilst filtering through applicants stop focussing on the 'relevant experience', there should be more focus on helping people climb the learning curve, it is very difficult to make a sideways step into a new area eg a bond salesman should be allowed to work in strategy if he wanted a more analytical/strategic role and given an opportunity to learn, not rejected based on his lack of experience.

I worked at National Australia Bank full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

In the business bank you can expect a big learning curve to begin with if you have no prior experience. You are really forced to learn a lot in a short amount of time which is good if you like that.

    Cons

The systems are not integrated and it seems like departments within the bank do not communicate well. Project teams based in a castle in the sky create processes that do not make any practical sense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fix the processes and systems.

I have been working at National Australia Bank full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

very good talent program for top 3% of employees.

    Cons

Does not pay best in market because of brand

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

NAB loose the best and brightest as they are not flexible on pay to retain top 5% of talent. Also they do too many restructures that reduce an employees level of trust and engagement to invest in a long term job with the organisation.
