    Pros

Good benefits. Elevator worked for half of the year.

    Cons

Administrators are not adequately trained. Some that I have experienced might not have the correct certification (a Special Education degree) or training but are promoted to be the Dean of that very department. Additionally, as a new employee, I was left "out of the loop" because I was not a part of the right clique. Also, my administrators and day-to-day colleagues were not forthcoming with information. I felt like I was playing 20 questions most of the time trying to figure out exactly the extent of my commitments before and after school. I witnessed teachers getting written up for petty things such as carrying a bottle of water around (the teacher was pregnant and the school had no air conditioning). The students tended to get into physical fist fights with each other and had no issue threatening teachers. Students get written up 85 times before the administrator decides that something should be done. School lunches for the students are horrible and lends to their poor attitude towards NHA schools. Many students used to complain coming back from the lunch room that they felt like they were being fed like an inmate.

Lack of supplies was stunning. National Heritage's philosophy is good in theory but does not play out within the school. Teachers scream at the students (sometimes with obscenities). Very hostile environment among students with staff, staff with staff, and staff with administrators. I brought home $845 every two weeks and think I could have made that much working at McDonalds or some other fast food place.

No room for promotions. Loads of after school commitments. No over-time pay or extra stipends for supplies.

    Advice to Management

No room for upward mobility unless you are in the correct clique. Administrators act like they want to hear what the teachers, parents and students have to say as to how to improve the school, but choose something completely opposite. Many new Deans only taught in a classroom for 5 yrs or less and expect that the teachers who have already been in the classroom for 10 yrs and above should have to attend all of the 1st year teacher training events.

    Pros

Benefits are still pretty good even though the cost continues to go up each year.

    Cons

Lip service to learning only. Low pay, and decisions are made based on profit, not student growth.

    Advice to Management

Don't yell at staff members in front of other students and staff.

    Pros

The benefits were pretty decent and I worked with very dedicated teachers.

    Cons

Extreme lack of support, culture of fear, some of the least professional administrators I've had the displeasure of working for. In a primarily African American community, there was not a single African American teacher, which seemed a little odd.

This company is blatantly racist and biased against any religion except for CRC. They are worthy of a detrimental lawsui

    Pros

There are absolutely no 'pro' associated with this company

    Cons

Racist; sexist, religious bias (unless you're a member of their religion)

    Advice to Management

    Find a great lawyer.

    Pros

    updated Curriculum
    behavior management system is adequate
    great training for teachers

    Cons

    low pay
expected to work lots of hours with inadequate compensation
students become a "number/score" based on test results
    driven by politics
limited options for advancement "all in who you know"

    Advice to Management

hold school principal accoutable for doing their job (whatever that is)
seems like deans do all the work and principals do what they want
pay poeple based on experience and education
lots of top down decisions- consider teachers and deans opinions since they are the ones doing all the work
spend less money of travel expenses and use that for upgrades to technology for students or paying teachers more

    Pros

    -Good training
    -Good teaching resources
    -Great for students and parents
    -Standardized classroom rules/expectations

    Cons

-NO FREE TIME (most teachers work 12 hour days and they tend to take away your prep)
-Extremely overwork their teachers (often taking evenings and weekends)
    -Compensation (one of lowest)
-Ostracization (if you do not put in all the expected time, you WILL feel ostracized)
-High turn over rate for good reason (see reviews made by teachers)

    Advice to Management

I love the new teacher training and resources available. I really felt ready to teach after receiving my orientation.

However, the teachers are very overworked at this company with some of the lowest compensation packages I've ever come across. Many teachers I've spoken with have made statement such as "I have not been able to spend time with my son for weeks."

Simply put: your teachers are overworked to a level I have never seen before. You will continue seeing high turn over rates because of this.

    Pros

Easy to get hired. The hiring process is very Easy and quick. The company seems to be willing to promote within.

    Cons

The company expect workers to work over time and not get paid and or compensated. Significant problems with balancing work hours and home life. Staff are expected to come in early and stay late on a regular basis. Employees are expected to use the time card to sign in and out every time you come into the building, leave for lunch and leave at the end of the day. Employees are monitored closely if you take more than 30 minute lunch. The company has an "at will" status which means they can fire employees at anytime.
