I have been working at National Heritage Academies

    Pros

Flexible hours, make your own schedule, determine events to participate in. company cell phone (or cell phone allowance), marketing budget with corporate card. Most of the staff is friendly and supportive.

    Cons

Role has transformed into more of a sales role including more nights and weekends. Although there is a bonus incentive, it is minimal for a typical sales role. No opportunity for career growth unless you are willing to move to Grand Rapids.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a career path for employees out in the field, compensate employees for crazy hours worked on nights, weekends, and holidays.

I worked at National Heritage Academies

    Pros

NHA has good benefits and I think the administration tries to achieve results. However, many are not trained or even degreed in administration so aren't clear on how to achieve results.

    Cons

The discipline is awful . Students as a whole are disrespectful . Administrations spends too much time with observation and testing instead of focusing on the core problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire seasoned teachers and pay them according to their experience. Intervene when necessary and do not play big brother constantly. Behavior would improve if students could have some consistency in teachers.

I have been working at National Heritage Academies full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Benefits were hard to beat in relation to other companies. Support came in many forms, whether it be transitioning into a new role or getting help directly from HQ. NHA does well in taking care of their employers.

    Cons

Being compensated for the amount of work you do is a little lacking. Though benefits from this company is a plus, salary is not up to par with other positions. Being a North Carolina teacher "adds" to the low compensation and the time it takes to have a decent compensations is too long. There's a lot of hoops when it comes to asking for certain things from HQ.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more real with your employers. Though we appreciate all the small tokens of appreciation, we are not blind to the real issues we face as NHA North Carolina teachers. Team involvement and communication is one of the main things I feel lacks in some of our schools. Be realistic and up front with your teachers, in the long run they will appreciate that.

    Pros

NHA has a great group of professionals who care about the education of children...and they are a family-friendly institution.

    Cons

Salaries aren't very competitive for the general workforce.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lack of leadership skills may be an issue as many of the managers are young and inexperienced. Actually, some of the directors lack leadership skills as well but upper management doesn't see it, nor do they seem to care. I would suggest offering leadership training throughout the company.

I have been working at National Heritage Academies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong moral focus emphasis; teachers committed to their craft and helping students reach potential. Majority of parents are engaged, supportive, and interested helping their children meet with success.
    Good benefits!

    Cons

Corporation is heavy-handed; curriculum changes frequently as does report card. Little support in terms of textbooks and materials. I feel this is, in part, due to the frequent changes that take place within the curriculum. Not a fan of the dean model which involves frequent classroom observations and feedback which is given during "planning" period. I can be trusted to be a good, even excellent, teacher who wants the best for my students.
More and more of our planning time is taken up with mandatory tasks and meetings. Many playground supervisions required as well. NHA schools ask more of their teachers than traditional public schools and for less pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before implementing more changes in curriculum, plan for resources to support your teachers in the classrooms.
