    Pros

I would recommend them. The work life balance is good, and they have a hands off management style.

    Cons

With the oil market the way it is right now there is not a lot of room to advance. Salaries are frozen across the board. It would be tough to get on.

    Advice to Management

The only advice I would give is to try and promote from within a little more and get those ERP's integrated a little better.

    Pros

Insurance is the best at Houston location. They pay 100% while normal copays is all you pay for medical. Vision and dental are normal I would say.
Management is great at least in my department. They train you enough to get started and keep you up to date on new software training, and new practices. Supervisor is great and I'm glad to have him so I learn from someone that does my same job and understands my work.
Work load is good and steady which makes you feel important, useful, and part of a team.
This company, being so big, offers Great job security.

    Cons

Salaries are probably a little under the market but not by much.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond the appearances. Good workers should be known for, well, their work! Not their loud words.
Appreciate your good workers before they leave, and have you find out how good they actually were years later.

    Pros

Unlimited opportunities to learn, continuing education, excellent benefits, many hard working people, diverse cultures, technologically advanced, long history and great visibility in the market.

    Cons

Low pay and not very good work life balance although they try to encourage it.

    Advice to Management

20 percent of the people do 80 percent of the work. Find a way to figure out who the 20 percent are and reward them.

    Pros

The general reliability and predictive nature of the oil and gas industry provides a very stable platform for employment. Despite the cyclical nature of downturns, many facilities do all they can to not lay people off unnecessarily.

    Cons

The pay is not comparable to the rest of the industry. Many technicians and rig workers leave NOV for better pay at other companies, however, those jobs rarely last like a career at NOV would.

    Advice to Management

Just one time in my life, I would like to see a management change for the better not worse. All technicians should be trained for every specialty, and those that cannot handle at least a little of everything need to go home.

    Pros

Large company with excellent career growth opportunities and opportunities. Great benefits and incentives. Multiple disciplines work together, allowing for cross departmental training/collaboration.

    Cons

Disconnect between management priorities among groups. Individual group project/tasks tend to take priority over the requirement of the company as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Work towards a more across the board priority ranking and communication process between projects that require multiple group/division contributions.

    Pros

The office has a great culture compared to some of its competing companies. Upper level management will take the time to talk with anyone on a personal level and make you feel at ease. They expect a lot out of you but also give you the freedom and confidence to accomplish your task and projects.

    Cons

If you do not like to travel a lot then I would suggest an HR position or another company. You will be expected to travel a lot for nearly any position.

    Advice to Management

Be up front with expectations and give more feedback.

    Pros

Good work life balance and laid back atmosphere. Right now oil and gas jobs are being laid off, but NOV seems pretty loyal to its employees and have only laid off where it had to.

    Cons

Pay is below average. Because the company has grown so quickly, most of the facilities are on a different ERP system so integration could be improved between business units.
