Great benefits, very transparent but hard to move around at the upper levels

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat culture. Fun and friendly environment. Sometimes the work/life balance could be better. Management at all levels does a great job of being transparent and living the values. There is a very diverse workforce that helps in developing solutions and products.

ConsThe opportunities to move around the company at the higher bands (F and G) could be better communicated and made available. There is still some politics and "who you know" verses job skills. It is much better that it was though.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

An amazing opportunity for anyone in this industry.

Financial Services Representative (Current Employee) Columbus, OH

ProsThey value you individually as an employee. They provide you with all of the recipes for success. Your advancement is completely up to you; in a world where nothing comes to you for free, you'll want to have a driver for more if you're trying to advance. Dress and work for the position you want, not the position you have.

ConsIntroductory pay may not be as sufficient to current financial needs, dependent on the person, but the room for growth far exceeds any initial benefits. If you don't stand out as an employee or as a hard worker, you may be in jeopardy of moving up. Also, it seems the only real way to get offered an introductory position is through a contractor.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvice to management? Maybe focus less on politics and focus more on the employee putting in the hard work. I've seen some instances where people are getting paid drastically more and aren't as capable or hard working as their peers.

An outstanding, policyholder-focused company that has established the gold standard for Agile software development.

Agile Coach (Former Employee) Columbus, OH

ProsEvery single image, color, and line of text on a Nationwide Financial site or app has meaning and is carefully evolved by the team that created it. The IT talent is the absolute best I've ever worked with.

ConsSome new execs could use focus on how to be an executive.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour rapid growth is producing newly promoted execs who have not learned to be execs. Invest in them.

Big Company with room to move around

IT Specialist (Current Employee) Dublin, OH

ProsAbility to move within the company for new opportunities
    Benefits
    Opportunities to learn more skills
    Managers push you for success
    Many locations

ConsPay seems to be below what one can find outside Nationwide
Employees are able to move up from within the call center sometimes leaving abilities lacking in IT

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand that throwing bodies at a situation does not fix it. Employees should not be moved simply to appease a staffing model. Otherwise, management does a great job empowering and engaging the associates.
