I have been working at Nationwide full-time for more than a year

    Pros

First off, I work as a software engineer. We have a very relaxed workplace. We use industry standard tools, which means I very rarely have to work on something I can't use on another project/job. Also, I don't have to spend time writing stuff that already exists, is better tested, and also already free. Nationwide's infrastructure team is hands down the best I've ever experienced. Releases happen on very well coordinated schedules with plenty of support people on call. Both management and IT are both supportive in allowing me to try new tools to help get my work done. The gym is also super handy; I use it every day. Lots of opportunities available.

    Cons

Can be slower paced than other places. Salary slightly below other places.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Does what an insurance company should do. Be there for the customer. Organization encourages volunteering. Management encourages employees to take their "your time" or vacation. Good benefits.

    Cons

Opportunities are there if you are an engaged employee. Some silos but is improving as management makes moderate adjustments or reorganize.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to share the vision. Very transparent.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work with great people, they encourage development, have a great education reimbursement package (for degrees, certificates, etc.), great benefits...awesome location with lots of places to walk for a break or lunch!

    Cons

It doesn't happen in every department, but there are some places where there are managers in the wrong jobs, and it really makes or breaks your engagement and happiness to have a decent manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at people in leader positions, all they way down, and make sure they are in the right jobs!

I have been working at Nationwide full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people - The company really has a good eye for people and where they fit in. From regional leadership to the front lines teams the company breeds success.

    Cons

Leaving the Atlanta Area soon. Many positions have been moved to other states, and the Atlanta area regional office may also be closed soon to come.

I worked at Nationwide full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Nationwide has great training opportunities. Everything from Continuous Improvement to Excel classes. They are readily available to all Associates. The company values are upheld and annual meetings are set up around them. Nationwide gives their Associates many opportunities to balance your work and home life. It is a very friendly atmosphere where team work is of the utmost importance.

    Cons

There are some people who are not Team players and are only in it for themselves, at all levels. Many in management are not aware of the administrative assistant role and what they do, other then basic administrative work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should get more tuned into the Administrative staff.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time

    Pros

Great work life balance, opportunity to learn and become involved. I received a promotion in 7 months after getting into the company because of the opportunity to learn and grow within

    Cons

There are a lot of people that appear to not do much but continue moving up in their career path because of tenure.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Large, stable, insurance and financial company with plenty of opportunities for growth and promotion. The benefits are standard as to what you'll see in the industry, but they are a company that still does pay a Pension Plan.

    Cons

Need to give associates more opportunities for innovative ideas. Dress code needs to be more relaxed with a lesser urge for contribution to charity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time with your associates instead of in your offices.
