I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for personal / professional growth in the Life Sciences group. There is excellent work life balance and the senior management really does value people's family commitments

    Cons

Training is ad hoc and still in development, though it is improving over time. Sometimes selling additional work gets in in the way of quality

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great company, benefits, and work-life balance. I worked for Navigant for almost 10 years and overall I was satisfied with how I was treated. The company definitely knows how to communicate properly and they are very diplomatic and careful with HR-related stuff.

    Cons

The company needs to provide a more fair succession plan for loyal, hard-working employees who have put in the time and effort to grow. I worked for almost 10 years and was only promoted once with a total increate in my salary of $10,000 over 9 years of dedication. My reviews were always fantastic but I never saw any growth for me. In the end, I lost my job due to the elimination of certain positions because we lost several clients in one year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be fair with hard-working and loyal employees and reward those that have put in the time.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very flexible work arrangement (work remotely when needed, work odd-hours when needed, take off two hours in middle of day for appointments, etc.)
Enthusiastic, bright, and engaging junior staff
    Plentiful initial training opportunities
    Commitment to diversity

    Cons

    Strict hierarchy
    Uninspiring executive team
    Incohesive corporate/management goals/message
Lack of training opportunities after first year
    Little emphasis on professional development
Little support for pursuing learning opportunities
    Bloated management and executive compensation
    Inconsistent vacation policies
Aggressive acquisition campaign destroys 'close-knit' culture

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tie management and executive compensation to median employee salary (no more than 20x median salary for executives, 10x for management)
Provide consistent and cohesive firm-wide goals
Focus on employees you already have, not companies you want to acquire
Encourage training and professional development from the top down
Provide consistent vacation allowances to employees of all levels
Try to spend a day-in-the-life of administrators, consultants, and analysts to gain perspective
Start a sustainability initiative to limit reckless waste of resources (electricity, paper, ink, water, heating/cooling)

Great Junior People, Silos, Lack of Accountability

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people at the junior level, some amazing Associate Directors and Directors as well. Very interesting and engaging work. Some nice perks, good work-life balance. Never felt over-worked. Life is great if you have a good MD.

    Cons

Non-competitive benefits package. Projects and skills poorly matched. Very specialized practices and lack of diversity in projects assigned. Each sub-practice is its own siloed territory, guarded fiercely in some cases by MD warlords.

Had some AD's who would work remotely basically everyday, and junior staff would get blamed for ensuing chaos. Limited room for professional growth and development within smaller, more top-heavy siloes. Great/smart/talented people at all levels, mixed in with some incompetent people at the top.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure project managers actually show up to work. Consulting is unstructured by nature, but that shouldn't be because of the managers. Have more inter-practice collaboration and consistency throughout.

Very diverse and you work with people from different backgrounds

    Cons

Zero work-life balance and definitely ADs and MDs have favorites that gets promoted very quickly. Poor management and please improve your workspace as people definitely hate working in PODS!

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They put an emphasis on training. A massive emphasis on client first, which is understandable in consulting. Many young workers that like to socialize with each other, so the people you work with are very friendly, as well as knowledgeable. The people that work here tend to have incredible knowledge about the subjects that they are working on.

    Cons

Some practices are so small that you are around the same people working on the same projects all the time, which would be fine if there was a better work/ life balance. The work life balance is not good most of the time, but I think this varies greatly between practices within the company. You can get stuck on the same project for years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Within certain practices, there is a large problem with micromanaging workers and projects. It gets to the point where we spend more time checking in than working on our client deliverables. Provide more opportunities to work on different projects or with different practices.
