I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Company allows you to seek out opportunities you are interested in. Lots of smart people working on interesting and relevant problems.

    Cons

Still can be a stuffy, corporate environment with standard corporate training, meetings, and mind-numbing performance evaluation processes. Training leaves a lot to be desired.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Navigant has great people and everyone seems to be extremely bright and committed to satisfying the needs of our clients. There is a lot of growth especially in the Financial Services Practice

    Cons

Not too much vacation time. Benefits are average at best. Coming from a huge bank, there is an adjustment of expectation that needs to occur.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work life balance is key. Be sure that compensation remains competitve so that you keep great people.

Lots of opportunity to grow, but not a great work/life balance.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of really smart people in the company, and you can very much take control of your own career development. Learning and training opportunities are nearly unlimited. Pay is competitive and the requirements for promotion are clearly outlined and very transparent.

    Cons

As with any consulting job, at time it can be difficult to maintain a good work/life balance. Experienced hires may occasionally feel they're being talked down to or do not have the trust of management to do your job. There are a lot of rude, entitled people that work for the company, and the culture can be a bit grating at times.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Worked with very experienced consultants who were eager to share their knowledge.

    Cons

Not at much analytical/testing experience for interns

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to give interns more field-related activities instead of HR-focused work.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Fun, smart talented people. I am proud to call many of them my colleagues and friends. I learned quite a bit from them

    Cons

Eventually, what start off as a very flat organization structure, where a single voice had some weight, turned into a complex hierarchy as the project grew bigger and bigger. Office politics started to play a greater role.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Issue every employee the best and lastest laptops. You want them to be as productive as possible? Give them the tools that work all the time, not 7 hours out of 12.

-Revise the performance review process, so that each employee is not evaluated by just one supervisor, especially if they don't have just one supervisor.

    Pros

All the people at Navigant are amazing. The upper level management is easily accesible. People are always willing to help you. Stress-free, cooperative environment. The work can be very interesting and you get a great deal of independence. Alot of activities for the interns.

    Cons

Depending on the group you are placed in, your work may seem a little tedious at times. However, the overall cases are very interesting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work.

    Great Company to Work For

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There is interesting work at all levels of employment. If an engagment is small enough, you may have the opportunity to learn new skills and being involved at all levels of the engagement. There is lots of diversity in your day to day projects and tasks. Very friendly culture, not an overwhelming feeling of seniority.

    Cons

Often 40+ hours a week, but that is typical given this type of work. Parking is very expensive and the metro in DC isn't that cheap either.

Former Employee - Senior Consultant in Washington, DC

    I worked at Navigant Consulting

    Pros

Navigant does a great job hiring people who are knowledgeable but also fun and easy to work with. The people are its greatest strength. It also works in a number of different industries, geographies, and functional areas, so there's availability to pursue varied interests.

    Cons

The tasks assigned to lower level consultants and new hires in the D&I practice can be really boring and mundane considering you just finished a rigorous undergraduate degree. However, the work can get more interesting once you get more responsibility and placed on different project types.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Navigant should offer some clearer pathways to transfer to other parts of the organization, even as part of a rotational program. This sort of initiative would have to be organized by upper management, since many of the individual offices and Managing Directors run their operations as a stand alone business.
