    Pros

The workers want to succeed, good place to quickly get promoted, nice campus

    Cons

Weak senior management, incapable of decision making, zero direction, some areas very old school degrading/yelling at employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a decision, indecision is not a decision.

Company that is years behind the competition due engine strategy, used truck inventory, and poor balance sheet.

I worked at Navistar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are still some good people left at Navistar; but most of the good employees have left. In in order to advance you will need to be employed in Lisle.

    Cons

CEO is under pressure from investors. Good old boy network still prevails. Only C&D players left at this company. Little R&D investment for products. At least 3 years behind the competition,
Advanced EGR Engine strategy has resulted in significant downtime of trucks which has affected customers and dealers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The two main investors need to clean house of senior management and that includes the CEO. The strategy of reducing employees either through force retirements and/or budget cuts has resulted in 1 manager to 1 direct report.

    Pros

    Health Benefits are very good

    Cons

Downsizing. Not promoting. Turning down heat in winter to save costs. Taking away dish soap at the sinks to save costs. Meanwhile, they still have their skybox tickets for all of the Chicago sport teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward current good employees now because if you wait, it will be too late when they walk out the door.

I have been working at Navistar full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great campus, gymnasium, and cafeteria for those who work in the corporate headquarters. For the rest, work conditions are horrible.

    Cons

    1. Sub-par human capital - Not a great place for people who want to get anywhere in life. The sheer mass stupidity of people will drown a person of reasonable intelligence. It's a place where stupid people make incredibly stupid decisions at an incredibly fast pace.
    2. Lack of structure - It's defined by a staggering paucity of systems, procedures, teamwork, and discipline.
    3. Horrible culture - Old school, conservative, passive-aggressive, suburban culture. When the new CEO was asked what culture he'd like to espouse after the company's 2012 debacle, he stumbled before responding that culture begins with people. So, there is still a total lack of accountability at the top, even after the change in management.
    4. Old boys' club - New executive management is a mix of GM and Ford rejects. Sycophancy still rules the roost. No real diversity to speak of anywhere in the company. In general, if you're not a tall white guy, and in rare circumstances, a good looking white woman, you are not going anywhere.
    5. Non-existent training and employee development - While career opportunities are already limited, there aren't any real learning or developmental opportunities for personal growth either. To add to that, middle ranks are filled with sub-par, incompetent managers who can't mentor. It's always about the company and never about the people, Employees are viewed like animals in a slaughterhouse, whose only purpose in life is to provide meat. Human Resources is a policing unit, not a service department.
    6. Shocking compensation - Salaries are way below par, and benefits, especially health benefits, have gone into the toilet.
    7. Ethical quagmire - Products are routinely released without proper testing and development, despite the 2012 debacle. Management talks a good, game, but it's never about the customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If it wasn't obvious from your GM and Ford contributions, maximizing shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world. Your actions will fill your pockets with a lot of money and fake pride, but they are unlikely to build your legacies. Do something good for a change!

I have been working at Navistar full-time

    Pros

If you really don't feel like doing anything at all for weeks at a time this is the company for you. From executives to the mail room everyone who wants to is coasting till the company fails. There are no repercussions for late work, incorrect work, not showing up to work. If you get an email and phone call from someone to do something it's not your responsibility till they show up at your desk.

    Cons

This company believes in paying as low as they can compared to the market thinking they are still getting the same quality employees as top companies. The 3 year progression, promotion, and raises freeze has caused moral to be at an all time low. Some might argue but those are the well connected people or referring to the 4 % over 3 years raises the company handed out not matching inflation. They had Boston Consulting Group (BCG) come in and restructure the company leaving it with 4 layers of VPs' but 2 layers of all other employees ranging from 1 year of experience to 30 years. Moral is low because being 1 year into this structure there are no plans on how one gets progressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You claim our goal is to return to profitability by capturing market share. I don't see any plan in place apart from praying for the economy to pick up and people start buying your products.

    Pros

Nice campus, Troy Clarke OK. There are good individuals at the company. But not enough in leadership. Some are trying hard to do a good job

    Cons

Too many people in leadership that have no ethics, no sense for quality and too many yes persons. There are also too many in leadership that are just incompetent.

    Sell the company

Plenty of smart people at all levels.

    Cons

They went too far down the path of a wrong engine strategy and now they are hemorrhaging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go ahead and sell off the pieces, as that will eventually happen anyway.

    Pros

    Only the working level people

    Cons

    Lack of leadership
    Unethical behavior (Green card applicants)
Hourly your pay is based off of 45 hours and not 40
    Health insurance
    Benefits
    No room for growth
    Salary not competetive
    Experience has left

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink your position on the people who perform the real work. How idiotic is it to drop the building temperature in the winter to save money? You obviously do not care about your people. Still the company has Silos and wouldn't understand quality if it hit them in the face.

Horrible place to work. Crooked union(UAW) and human resources fires you if you don't worship them.

Current Employee - Assembler in Springfield, OH
Current Employee - Assembler in Springfield, OH

I have been working at Navistar full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are decent for the older union workers.

    Cons

Workload has increased dramatically over the last 10 years while the union has given away pay raises, vacation, pensions, profit sharing and dignity. New employees start out at almost $10 an hour less that older workers. The UAW has gotten into bed with human resources and they see that you are fired unless you act like they are all God.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire all human resources employees and start from scratch. Put ALL UAW leaders back on the assembly line or fire them.
