    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The new shared chat is awesome for learning! Continue scheduled training as it takes a while to learn the subtleties of the rules/procedures.

I have been working at Neiman Marcus full-time for less than a year

    Pros

40+ hours a week. almost always has over time available and can request if your schedule does not state it.
Work at home - no pants necessary
    further discounts on items.
    friendly customers - very polite

    Cons

    calls were back to back.
no flexibility on schedules even for school.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more in touch with your out side customer service agents. My Manager didn't even know my name or if I was already trained on a specific thing, even though the emails clearly stated that I spoke with her directly about things.

    Pros

Great discount, easy job, no pressure, can be fun, stress free

    Cons

low pay, expected to sell merchandise but not offered a commission

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have to really connect with the management in order to advance within the company. Management positions are often filled by people that do not currently work at Neiman. They should hire more internally. There is a strong disconnect between management and general associates. You really do not feel appreciated but at the same time I have never been treated in a negative way. You just show up and work and not much is said or communicated to you by management. They like to protect their jobs so they do not promote people that might threaten their jobs.

I have been working at Neiman Marcus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most of the tenured associates are great! They are usually a lot of fun to be around.

    Cons

Management doesn't seem to have a solid grasp on what's happening in the call center. They are begging the slackers to be managers. None of them know what the others are saying/doing. It feels like there is little to no appreciation or acknowledgment for the people who work the hardest.

Current Employee - Sales Associate in Honolulu, HI

I have been working at Neiman Marcus full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

For commission based salaries the pay is great since sky is the limit. Just starting off as you build you clientele the pay is around $20/hr.
Great place for employees discounts. Shorter work hours (37.5 hrs/wk). 1 hr lunch breaks.

    Cons

Constantly pushing for new credit card applicants. Older sales associates are very stubborn to work with. For commission based associates there are many gray areas when it comes to who's customer is who's. For example some associates think that just because you say hi to someone, the person automatically becomes your customer.
When first starting off the training is very minimal and you are kind of thrown into your dept and it's either sink or swim for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you paid your clerical/coordinators more they would be more loyal and have more of a commitment to NM. $12/hr is just above minimum wage in Hawaii while a gallon of milk is $5.50 on sale. Executives (upper management) may not understand this because they are getting paid $80k to $100k+! So sad : (
