I have been working at Neiman Marcus full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The staffs are generally nice, customers are pretty divided between crazy and sweet - skewed toward the very wealthy of course. Restaurant hours and benefits are GREAT.

    Cons

Corporate policies sometimes strangle creativity and innovation. Holidays restrictions are realistic but still a bummer.

    Pros

I love the people I work with. My boss doesn't micromanage me and when I need to talk with him he finds the time. He always has a positive and upbeat attitude which is so important. Who you work with and report to make all the difference. They're great about training on the products. They supply you with your own iPhone which is a huge perk when you're in sales.

    Cons

HR takes forever to do anything!! And as I've heard from other people trying to transfer to another store consider you're starting all over again because you'll have to go through all the hoops just as if you didn't work there. All you'll get is a reference from your manager, but no guarantees on anything. Also antiquated POS systems, but they're slowly updating to current technology. Otherwise, I've enjoyed working there overall.

I have been working at Neiman Marcus

    Pros

NMG is the pinnacle of the retail experience. The best designers, the best talent and customers who are the top 2% in discretionary spending allows for each employee to reach their respective potential. The fun factor shouldn't be underestimated.

    Cons

Work-life balance is essentially nil. Within Dallas, you are in the fishbowl and therefore always, always, on. It is not a family-friendly atmosphere, and remains iconoclastically stuck in the 80's.

    Pros

The culture of the store is very high fashion, business oriented. Everyone is about their business and we not only act the part we looks the part as well.

    Cons

if you're looking for mentorship and development because you want to advance within the company you will not find it here. It truly is about who you know. Politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Coaching and development is important to the success of sales associates and product specialist. Crunching numbers isn't enough.

I have been working at Neiman Marcus full-time

    Pros

Its a steady paycheck, and a 20% discount on purchases.

    Cons

I found that working within the Neiman Marcus environment that you are looked down at if you work at one of the Last Call locations. I have attended regional training seminars and the attitude is clearly divided between the main line stores and the last call. The management level in the Last Call stores is small and therefore everyone knows everyones business meaning NO confidentiality. The sales associates who don't work for commission sales but will cut your head off if you happen to assist someone "Who is someones else's client/customer" the only reward the salespeople receive is a flower arraignment for attaining a certain sales level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat all levels of the corparation with the same kind of respect and attitude given to the Main Line stores

    Cons

Current Employee - Sales Associate in Charlotte, NC

I have been working at Neiman Marcus full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you can build your clientele, you'll be successful. Pay is either hourly OR commission, not both. It's up to you to build your paycheck.

    Cons

Say they'll let you have one weekend off a month but then don't. Management is very unprofessional. They normally don't let sales associates move up to coordinator or management positions, however they tell you otherwise during interviews. During training, they try to say you're going to make a lot of money based on commission, however very few associates hit the $500,000 sales goal, which isn't even a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have more respect for associates.
