Great for commission based salary, but for starting management position the pay unethical.

Sales Associate (Current Employee) Honolulu, HI

ProsFor commission based salaries the pay is great since sky is the limit. Just starting off as you build you clientele the pay is around $20/hr.
Great place for employees discounts. Shorter work hours (37.5 hrs/wk). 1 hr lunch breaks.

ConsConstantly pushing for new credit card applicants. Older sales associates are very stubborn to work with. For commission based associates there are many gray areas when it comes to who's customer is who's. For example some associates think that just because you say hi to someone, the person automatically becomes your customer.
When first starting off the training is very minimal and you are kind of thrown into your dept and it's either sink or swim for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you paid your clerical/coordinators more they would be more loyal and have more of a commitment to NM. $12/hr is just above minimum wage in Hawaii while a gallon of milk is $5.50 on sale. Executives (upper management) may not understand this because they are getting paid $80k to $100k+! So sad : (

    Everything that glitters isn't gold

    (Current Employee)

ProsIt's a great place to work if you want a career in the retail/fashion industry. Meet lots of people through store events and vendors. Your in charge of your own business and growth so if you aren't aggressive in sales and aren't liked it might not be for you. Discount good.

ConsNot enough traffic for new employees to establish clientele. 80% of current employees that work there are very seasoned so just imagine the customers. Employees are greedy since it's a commission environment. It's hard to acquire time-off. Pay is what you make it but it's not easy because most customers already have associates that they work with.

Advice to Senior ManagementAssist new employees with establishing clientele.

    Doesn't treat IT contractors well

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Irving, TX

ProsMost employees (in IT, not creatives who are snobs) are nice and accepting of contractors.

ConsCompany makes it seem like the so called "creatives" are the only ones that matter. Long hours. Upper management treats contractors like they are throw aways. Also moving a lot of IT jobs to India instead of giving higher salaries to people in their own country.

Great place for Texas fashion industry job.

Assistant Buyer (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsGreat detailed look into the fashion industry. Many opportunities to connect with people in the industry. People are always willing to help you.

ConsWork-life balance is not the most important to most people. TOO many job responsibilities for title and pay. The days never end.

I have been at neiman marcus almost a month

Customer Care Associate (Current Employee) Irving, TX

Prosworking from home, The training technique it may be a little difficult but I like how its just you and your computer you kind of go at your own pace. Its worth it for all the work that you have to do and all that information that you need to know, its better they have you training yourself I think you can retain the information better.

ConsThe Pay, The Customers...sometimes can be a little aggresive

Advice to Senior ManagementI think that higher pay would be great !

    Great people to work with.

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsThe hours are great. Room to grow with in the company. The pay is ok but meeting new people was the best part.

ConsLeadership lacked skills. Staff where rude to clients who wouldn't spend more then $100. Not willing to build new relationships with clients.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire staff that will train on customer service. Hire sales associates that doesn't mind serving.

    It's "Retail".

    Client Support (Current Employee)

ProsThe hours of operation are great!. I can't say that I've ever known or worked for "any" department store that has closed at 8pm, nice.
Employee discount is good. And they also give you "double" discount during certain months, fabulous way to stock up on cosmetics or something that you adore that cost a fortune!.
Great way to learn and gain amazing experience on all the best fashion designers and trends.
Great way for someone young or someone that is looking to get their foot in the door to a career in fashion "outside" the store (it's a great stepping stone).

ConsIt's "RETAIL". The slow times are the same slow times as any other department store no matter how glamourous the store is!.
It's all commission. You are in a tank full of sharks that are waiting in the same waiting pool as you to strike at the same bait that you are waiting for. Be prepared to grow thick skin and take the punches as well as throw them. But in the same waiting pool, you do meet some amazing people that "are" your friends and will show you a trick or two.
Don't expect this job to pay the bills. Make sure you have alternate financial back up.
Lastly; it's "retail", you should know when you first apply what it's all about, it's not rocket science!.

    Advice to Senior ManagementFair.
