Great Learning Experience, Area of Expertise Determines Trajectory

    I worked at Nestlé

    Pros

Great benefits, smart colleagues, strong training structure. Focus on safety.

    Cons

Process heavy. Much more attention, consideration and opportunities for advancement given to employees in certain disciplines (marketing for example). Pay doesn't seem on par with competitors. Sometimes poor approach to positive employee engagement. Expect to move a LOT if you want to get ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's unrealistic to expect the company to be the top priority in people's lives. You need to bring more humanity into the workplace and provide more, not less, flexibility if you want to better compete in getting and retaining really smart people.

I have been working at Nestlé full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Laid back management (possibly a con as well), reliable paycheck.

    Cons

Lack of accountability (currently in the process of changing), working long hours in extreme cold, attitude of co-workers is extremely bitter/negative. Benefits are VERY misleading, they sound good, but they're a game of smoke and mirrors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Currently things seem to be changing for the better, but to be honest, fixes in processes and equipment will only do so much. A very, very large part of your problem has to do with your employee base. Morale is at an all time low, current changes haven't done a whole lot to improve this.

I have been working at Nestlé full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

People, passion for the customers, benefits.

    Cons

Work life balance could be a bit better. All the processes, rules, etc. and the mutitude of audits gets to be a bit daunting when you cannot more your day to day work forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow us time to develop ourselves and employees and we can only spend so much time getting ready for audits, continuous improvement, etc. without it affecting our quality of work on the day to day items.

    I worked at Nestlé full-time

    Pros

The people were great, the work kept you busy and the ability to own what you do was fabulous.

    Cons

Low pay for the work you do, advancement is based on relationships not your body of work and the expectations are unrealistic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees and give all internal employees the ability to interview for open positions that they qualify for.

I have been working at Nestlé as a contractor

    Pros

decent salary, however, contractors make significantly less

    Cons

no growth, people do not get promoted, and if they do they remain in their position for 10+ years. contractors are treated less than, charged more in cafeteria, must pay for parking.. ridiculous! and more in the Nestle store. new policy - if contractors forget their badge they must accompanies in and out of their floor. crazy! Contractors are expected are overworked, but do not receive overtime.

Overall, its good experience because as a marketer you end up touching every element of the business. people are nice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

respect and value your employees, even contractors. If you treat contractors as lower-class citizens you should also lower your expectations.

Former Employee - Assistant Brand Manager (Intern)
Former Employee - Assistant Brand Manager (Intern)

I worked at Nestlé as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

As a brand marketing intern you experience a lot of great activities and get to do a variety of things outside the office.

    Cons

The environment is obviously very competitive especially among brand managers. One manager was even on pregnancy leave and well past her due date but came to a meeting anyway because she felt threatened by a younger manager. That level of competitiveness is unnecessary and unproductive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more of a team environment so people work towards the same goal and not against each other. At the end of the day you will likely make more money if everyone wants to work for the good of the company and not to win a personal rivalry.
