Either become a revenue generator or disappear - Firm is for those who can generate revenue, cost centers don't matter

I worked at Neuberger Berman full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work here if you are a revenue generator and have a book of business you can bring to increase firm's AUM either as a sales person or Portfolio manager. You eat your own cooking. Each team is paid based on their individual team level AUM. If you can bring in money, then you will feel like you own the place.

    Cons

If you are a cost center in Operations, HR, IT, Risk, or administration, then you are considered second class citizens. It is as if you hold non voting shares in a company. You don't matter, you are compelled to leave the firm and you are told to keep you opinions to yourself. As a cost center, you are just a number, you really have no identity. Please do not take cost center jobs, you will regret taking the job because you are just a menial worker. You will lose your self confidence and will lose motivation to engage with your work due to the environment in the firm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it would be better if Management told the truth to NB services employees. Management should not continue to deceive cost center / Support employees. People who work in support roles may not generate any revenues but they are still US Citizens. Please treat them with some respect and tell them the truth that they are menial workers since eventually they will find it out.

    Worst Company to Work For

I worked at Neuberger Berman as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

There are absolutely no good reasons to work at this company.

    Cons

The company does not care about their employees at all. If you live far away and there's a blizzard or an ice storm, they expect you to be in the office regardless even during a state of emergency. Your personal safety is not a concern to them at all and this is clear also in the way that they will harass you. When it comes to your pay, they will nickel and dime you. They claim they care about the budget but then waste money nonstop. This company believes that your life should revolve around your job. They will expect you to work weekends and late nights. Say goodbye to your life because it will be completely gone once you accept a job here. Worst company culture that I have ever seen-- they don't even have holiday parties for employees at Christmastime. If you'd like to go to the employee-run holiday party... that will cost you a good amount. Zero employee appreciation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to your "Vice Presidents"-- many of them don't deserve to be "Vice Presidents" and they allow that title to go to their heads by treating anyone below them with complete disrespect.

Terrifying Management culture in Neuberger Operation

I worked at Neuberger Berman full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you like a 9am to 5pm flexible job that does not challenges your analytical view, this is the place for you. However, the terrible management culture makes these benefits worthless.

    Cons

Abusive management with no proffessional training are making their own work rules. Human ressource is too weak to supervise them. Stay away from the Operation department.
There are no career mobility at this firm, age group is from 29 to 55. The cover up is projects that are not aligned with its business goals. Management can't retain any talented employees and reward inneficiencies to keep their positions safe and empower employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Keep your projects aligned with your business goals
-It's the 21st century, train your management team. A culture changeleads by examples not just beautiful words in writing.
-Treat employees better at workplace and provide competitive salaries not just ice cream and cookies.

Former Employee - Executive Assistant in Dallas, TX

    I worked at Neuberger Berman

    Pros

Great health insurance, free parking or DART

    Cons

No HR in Dallas, this place is in SERIOUS need of a work audit! Several people are paid full salaries for showing up to work late, leaving early, taking long lunches, and sitting in the worthless office manager's office gossiping all day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a work audit, check competency of employees (someone that can not tell you what the company does, has no basic microsoft office skills, is unable to scan a document should not be an "office manager")
