Unlimited opportunities, sky is the limit . And it looks good on your resume

    Cons

No base salary. The amount of hours working plus pay do not add up

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start your new employees off with a base salary or something to get them but during training . Which can help them out with transportation ect...

I have been working at New York Life as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Professional atmosphere, abundant training for agents/representatives, excellent industry/company reputation, expert consultants available to assist with complex cases.

    Cons

Not a good career for someone who does not want to work hard for the first 3-5 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have the courage to not hire someone merely to meet a quota as they will probably not last. This does not reflect well of management.

I worked at New York Life as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, solid company to work for. Easy access to the higher-ups. You make money at your own pace.

    Cons

You succeed at your own pace, which can be difficult if you do not have a lot of contacts that are open to purchase the products that NYL offers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Offer some quality leads.

I worked at New York Life

    Pros

Great name and reputation, strong leadership, and potentially very financially rewarding

    Cons

Requires a deep, numerous personal network of leads to build your business. Leads not provided until after a proven level of success.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider a true mentor program where new Reps partner with an established rep that can coach and assist with appointments until on solid footing. Maybe even a sales assistant role for 6 months to a year in order to get established, learn, and feel some success early on.

I worked at New York Life full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and opportunities for education assistance.

    Cons

Company is constantly growing and changing, which is a double edge sword. Sometimes veteran, experienced employees get overlooked for opportunities in favor of newer, younger, less experienced employees. Professional level staff are treated no better than factory workers punching a time clock.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Utilize veteran talent along with newly hired, fresh talent. Treat professionals as such and not like factory workers.
