    I've enjoyed working for New York and Company until recently. In the last 2 years, I've been with 3 different District Managers, which I felt was unstable for the entire team because each manager set different expectations and standards. The company focus is "customer first" but don't stand behind what they preach. Too many operations and deadlines to meet without payroll support that the "customer first" is lost in the midst of it all. District managers "tries" to be supportive but there is favoritism all the time. If you are well liked by your DSL then you get more visits and payroll support. DSL can be motivating and encouraging especially if your store is struggling. But there are those who just points out the negative, puts you and your management team down, brings the moral of your store down (especially when you worked so hard to motivate them each day) and overall creates a hostile environment for you and your team.

    Sales associates are hard to retain with the minimum wage pay. Although I have hired great quality associates, they've come to realize the amount of work expected of them for minimum wage is not worth it and find jobs elsewhere. There is also no payroll support to train new associates so we are forced to take those hours away from our allocated hours, which are barely enough to operate for the entire week. There are a lot of pressure for us and the associates to sell NYCO credit cards. So we are FORCED to allocate payroll by how the associates perform in selling credits. Which I find unethical in away because I've had associates who foster the "customer first" focus and are great with operations but are not so great in selling credit who loose out on the hours. We were even advice to let go of those associates when they don't perform well in credit.

    Work/life balance could be difficult. You may have to be asked to move your PTO or plan your vacation around the business, depending on a sale event or workload for the week. Expect to work MOST holidays of the year, especially Easter and Thanksgiving Day. Expect to work two 10 hours shifts on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. Most stores are open 6pm Thanksgiving Day.

    Advice to Management

    Lots of great ideas and programs to make the company better, but give your store teams the hours and support to implement them. DSL treat your store management team with respect.

    Good amount of hours, nice staff, good discount. The schedule was done fairly.

    Cons

    Management was flaky.they were always late in the morning. The retail schedule is not desirable.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more competent personnel to run your stores. Give more time to properly stock your sales floor. Work along side the associates to show you care about the business.

    Nice people, gain people skills, easy to get hired if you have customer service experience

    Cons

    Strict with their credit card sales, no room for growth, and in my experience, i had a pervert as a boss. Management is bad !
