I worked at New York & Company part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Pretty decent pay for retail, super flexible schedule, laid back atmosphere, decent discount.

    Cons

Selling those stupid credit cards to customers, management sometimes based job performance solely on the ability to sell the credit card rather than the ability to sell clothes and provide customer service. It almost seemed like customers who weren't spending hundreds of dollars or credit card holders weren't treated equally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on customer service instead of shoving credit cards down the customer's throat

    Pros

Good discount offers to associates! Discount changes by the sale but still a discount! You can wear black and white or purchase their items based on policy to wear in the store.

    Cons

Low starting pay many just stay for the discounts

I have been working at New York & Company part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, plenty of hours, if you work hard you get what you deserve.

    Cons

A little drama here and there but then again where isn't there?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Other than a few plays of favoritism I wouldn't change the people or how the place is ran. It's a great store with an awesome team. Keep doing what you guys do.

    Pros

Fun place to work, Can Advance quickly through the position.

    Cons

Not enough hours and pay isn't great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be More organized with your shipping and safety to staff, some stores don't even have air conditioning. Shipping boxes stacked everywhere at back and can hardly move and is a fire hazard.

I have been working at New York & Company part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The associates are fabulous people, the customers are quite tame for the usual mall-goers, great benefits/discounts, customer service comes naturally, and managers are all extremely fun and flexible. The initial hourly pay is over minimum wage, which was also unexpected. Training was quite easy and the POS programs were extremely easy to navigate on the registers.

    Cons

Barely any hours for part-time associates unless people resigned/were fired.

I worked at New York & Company part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of different experiences fast! It's like New York... if you want fast paced and room to grow, it is amazing for that.

    Cons

It's fast! If you get behind in the workload you are in trouble. But if you strive for that sort of thing to keep up you will be fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your customers more. They are willing and happy to tell you what they want. Employees have lives too. Remember what holidays are all about please

I worked at New York & Company part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

-Great management in the store I worked.
    -Promote from within.
    -Flexible with your schedule.
-Work hard, and you will reap the benefits.
    -Great people to work with.
-Great job for a college student.

    Cons

It is retail - so obviously, you will have a difficult time getting out of the holiday season, meaning if you are not from the area you work (i.e. college student), your time to celebrate the holidays may be cut short.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to change your policies often, or make sure stores are practicing the actual intended, written policy, and not getting caught up on "practiced" policy. Customers don't like being told things have changed.

I worked at New York & Company

    Pros

I worked in a smaller store so I had the chance to become closer and work with my managers a lot. Was my first job and gave me a lot of experience but there are always those managers that play favorites.

    Cons

Maybe it was just my store and I know every store has its slow season but when slow season came around the managers played favorites until they needed me to do the hard word like floorsets and cleaning the stock room. got very very little hours slow season.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
