    Pros

Lots of opportunity for gaining experience with multiple products

    Cons

The structure is primarily 2 silos - development and delivery - and metrics sometimes are misaligned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure metrics do not conflict at the top level.

    Pros

Polk has got this company headed in the right direction. His business strategy is VERY sound. And' he's building a performance culture. You'll be challenged to deliver, but when you deliver, generally you are rewarded. Yes we are allowed to wear jeans, but laid back is hardly how I would describe it. We have fun, but we work hard.

The other good thing about Newell right now is that because it went from kinda-cushy-it-doesn't-really-matter-if-you-deliver to we're-going-to-push-you-and-stretch-you-and-you-damn-well-better-deliver there is a fair degree of turnover. But turnover creates opportunity. And if you don't mind working hard, and you buy into the culture, this is a GREAT place to learn and advance your career.

    Cons

I'm going to give it to you straight. When I started working here in 2010, this was a GREAT company to work for...FROM AN EMPLOYEE PERSPECTIVE. Work life balance was best in class. Leadership cared about you. Pay was okay to average, but people were happy. We left on Fridays at 1 p.m. all the time. If I recall correctly 70+% of people would recommend it to a friend.

Today, it's still a good company to work for. However if you are looking for work life balance, I think you should look somewhere else. I've seen this company stripped down and reorganized. People work HARD. My teammates put in about 50-60 hours a week.

The pay is competitive, but not great. I believe the corporate directive is to align pay with the median salary range at similar companies. But hey, why not sign on for a four year hitch, learn what you can and then take you new skill set to greener pastures?

And for what it's worth that "Improvement is Imminent" post smacks of Recruiter-Posting-As-Employee...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing, just watch those turnover metrics...

    Pros

Great people to work with and good brands with some good products

    Cons

The health benefits are not good and a career path is fuzzy at best unless you are "in"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's work to retain good employees. Aside from the people who were forced to leave, there have been some very talented people walk out the door. There are a combined few hundred years of knowledge walking out the door.

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay, modern facility w/ great amenities (daycare, gym, cafe, free beverages, covered parking), consistent roll-out of processes and initiatives across the organization, looks good on the resume thus good launching pad for next career opportunity.

    Cons

Unclear expectations, manage up mentality AKA sink or swim, although the company seems to be making strides for parents they seem to prefer young adults without children, diversity program is fairly new and seems to be a facade for consumers (we employ the type of customers we serve), benefits are expensive, limited product discounts, corporate culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-evaluate culture and help employees thrive through more robust avenues to better understand and navigate corporate politics. Put a system in place ensuring those in leadership positions, more specifically manage people, know how to manage and their performance is evaluated by direct reports.

    Pros

A decent number of good people still work here. Constant restructure/ people leaving opens opportunities for those remaining if you can hang through the changes. Leadership has a clear vision.

    Cons

Constant changes is causing the company to loose a lot of talent. The ELT doesn't care about employees. It is only about making the numbers and there is little support to help the businesses grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move to Atlanta since you're making everyone else move there.

I have been working at Newell Rubbermaid full-time

    Pros

Great work/life balance and perks like Employee Store & gym on site. Great training programs. Company has gone through a major restructure, going from a cluster of holding companies to one centralized Newell. To say that the past 2 years have been challenging would be an understatement, but the worst seems to be over. We're poised to blossom as One Newell, but only cautiously optimistic as the next few months will be difficult, with people moving to their respective functional regions or leaving the company.

    Cons

The restructure created a lot of different campuses, geographically dividing functions that are intimately intertwined (Marketing in ATL & Graphics in Michigan, R&D in ATL & ID in Michigan etc...). Immediate future could be very frustrating in terms of how to collaborate, communication, information gathering, role clarifications. Also, if you join as a core function team member, you'll have a pretty well laid out career path if you perform (i.e., Marketing, finance). If you join as a supporting character, the map is not so well defined and there's not much of a ladder to climb (i.e., Quality, materials, lab technicians, fashion, etc...). I have received great reviews, am very well compensated for what I do, but feel a bit stagnant and bored due to lack of advancement opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a new structure, granted, but you must be feeling the 'you vs us' atmosphere. That wall is pretty thick in all townhall meetings. Break that barrier and have informal conversations with the folks working in the trenches that are working so hard everyday to deliver your objectives and your Growth Game Plan. Also, sometimes, you have to think 'inside of the box' - there are plenty of super talents in the organizations. You do not have to outsource everything.

    Pros

Always looking at best practices and driving technology. Great opportunity to learn and gain expertise. Work/ life balance and culture are fantastic. People here love being here and believe in the products they sell.

    Cons

Several departments across too many business groups have undergone changes too fast and have left employees nervous and uncertain about the direction and future of the company. Over the past 4 years the company may have become too lean and lost some of it's strategic edge as business units do not all go to market the same way yet were aligned together to streamline functions that do not drive sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of alignment of business units by common theme of product offerings align business units by how the products are purchased by consumers.

    Pros

Atlanta headquarters building is great. I work with a talented, friendly group of people. My career has advanced quickly in the six years since I've been with the company.

    Cons

Newell is going through a restructuring that is two years old now, with no end in sight. Lots of layoffs. Atmosphere of uncertainty pervades day-to-day operations.
