I worked at Newell Rubbermaid full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The office culture was pretty laid back. Everyone was really nice and easy to work with, but also hard working. The insurance benefits, gym and cafeteria were all great.

    Cons

In my department, there wasn't much support for telecommuting, but in Atlanta traffic, telecommuting would have been a plus. Unfortunately company restructuring lead to my department being relocating to a different state.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more opportunities to grow or more clear career paths.

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Opportunity to learn a lot. Very skilled, knowledgeable and professional co-workers. Very positive attitude throughout organization. Everyone is helpful. Very supportive work environment.

    Cons

Lots of responsibilities, long hours, insufficient resoures, do more with less. No official Telework policies - therefore telecommuting is sporatic at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build in more flexibility with working hours/locations for employees if you want them to continue to do more. Cutting down on commute time is time that could be translated to extra work hours if employees were allowed to work from home.

Smart people working hard to grow the brands and the company. Great location in Atlanta, GA. Lots of opportunity for the company to grow based on a strong portfolio of brands.

    Cons

Housing and consumer confidence have an impact on growth opportunities. All cube office environment can become noisy at times and privacy is at a premium.

I have been working at Newell Rubbermaid

    Pros

It is a wonderful place to work! I love my job and am made to feel valuable and appreciated. The manager I started under is one of the two great managers I have had in my programming career. I now report to my Director who is currently doing the job of an IT director and manager. I do not know how he is able to do both jobs but he does. He is the best director it has been my pleaser to work for. I have been here a year and it rates as one of the best places I have ever worked. NewellRubbermaid, Inc seams to encourage and keep good managers.

The work itself is interesting and challenging. My manager and director treat everyone that works for them like professionals. The targets set for the team are challenging, but not more than can be reasonably reached. Management is vocal in its recognition and appreciation of every team’s achievements. They delegate responsibility to individual team members instead of just dictating task. This allows you some say in what is to be done.

    Cons

They start you with 2 weeks leave no matter how long you have been working in your field.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep treating people like they are important and they will keep giving you 110%. I would cheerfully work 24x7 to help my manager out if he needed me to.

I have been working at Newell Rubbermaid

    Pros

NWL is a great place to work. For the most part, it is a strong company to work for. In a time of uncertain jobs, it seems like NWL is doing their part to try and keep as many people employed as possile.

    Cons

Seems like upper management in my division doesn't "get it". They don't understand exactly what it is the customer is looking for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to reality. Take a look at what the customers are saying and fix it.
