Great Growing Experience

Sourcing Intern (Current Employee)
Huntersville, NC

I have been working at Newell Rubbermaid as an intern for less than a year

ProsLots of professional and skill training opportunities.
A very team oriented work environment.
Autonomy was encouraged and in brainstorming and VA/VE events there was truly an atmosphere of no bad ideas.

ConsA lot corporate reorganization and upheaval.
Had issues with finding the right people to contact at various plants.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake the current reorg changes concrete and let the system grow from there. It's hard to be 100% productive when there's constant moving and everything seems to be in flux.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Love the people and amenities!

Graphic Designer (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe office culture was pretty laid back. Everyone was really nice and easy to work with, but also hard working. The insurance benefits, gym and cafeteria were all great.

ConsIn my department, there wasn't much support for telecommuting, but in Atlanta traffic, telecommuting would have been a plus. Unfortunately company restructuring lead to my department being relocating to a different state.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed more opportunities to grow or more clear career paths.

Great place for designers = total truth

Senior Industrial Designer (Former Employee)
Huntersville, NC

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid full-time for more than 5 years

ProsI worked at Newell Rubbermaid for a bit over eight years and, due to personal issues with my children's custody, could not move to the new design center. There is another person who is posting as 'senior designer' who has made multiple rant posts regarding a negative experience at Newell. Even though I am leaving the organization, this is my choice and the management team has been incredibly supportive by not only providing me a years notice of the changes that were coming, but also my director and vice president are personally assisting me in locating a new job. If I could have made the move I would have, as the past structure did not offer as many opportunities for advancement as the new structure will. I hope at some point my circumstances change and I can rejoin the team. In the meantime, I have nothing but good things to say about my experiences at Newell.

ConsThe company is in the middle of a strategy to move from a holding company to an operating company. If you like a holding company model, this is not the place for you. If you like being a part of dramatic change and a fast paced environment you should consider Newell.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe patient with employees who are working very hard to make the company strategy work

Brand Marketing Intern

Brand Marketing Intern (Former Employee)
Huntsville, NC

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid as an intern for less than a year

ProsFor being an undergraduate in college, I had a great deal of responsibility within the product category that I was assigned to. I frequently worked with the Category and Product Marketing Managers, and cross-functionally with the engineering teams to develop new product lines.

ConsVery few opportunities after internship

Very Demanding/Rewarding Work Environment

Senior Organizational Management Manager (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid full-time for more than a year

ProsOpportunity to learn a lot. Very skilled, knowledgeable and professional co-workers. Very positive attitude throughout organization. Everyone is helpful. Very supportive work environment.

ConsLots of responsibilities, long hours, insufficient resoures, do more with less. No official Telework policies - therefore telecommuting is sporatic at best.

Advice to Senior ManagementBuild in more flexibility with working hours/locations for employees if you want them to continue to do more. Cutting down on commute time is time that could be translated to extra work hours if employees were allowed to work from home.

This company is Amazing

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Winchester, VA

I worked at Newell Rubbermaid

ProsCulture, Pay, Management, Teamwork.

The culture was the selling point for me. Everyone seemed to know everyones name. The dress is business casual and never frowned upon. The leadership team (at least my managers) supported work-life balance better than any company I've worked for.

Please note, I hate when people complain that a company cares about its customer more than the employees - whoever wrote that is a moron. The customer is the reason the company is in business. If companies cared more about employees than their customers, then you wouldn't have a job. Newell has one of the better balances of who's more important; the customer or the employee.

If you are a hard worker with a positive attitude, you will go far in the organization and be recognized for your contributions.

ConsTechnology to support operations - Most manufacturing companys, however, are behind the times with basic technology (like smart phones, computers and software). At Newell it seems you have the minimum to get the job done, but this is made up with good teamwork.

Teamwork is great (at least in my function), however across the company it is silo'd

Advice to Senior ManagementThink outside of the box more. Continue to develop employees for future positions, this seems to be one of the companies strongest points.
