I have been working at Newmont Mining as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Fortune 500 company with awesome potential and huge network. Lots of connections with Big 4 accounting firms. My job that starts after my internship is completed is a direct result of management and their connections with the Denver area accounting firms. Everyone has heard of Newmont! And it's awesome to say that you work for a Gold Company!

    Cons

Cyclical business...good times are great, bad times are terrible. No benefits for interns. Some of the staff can be a little stand-off-ish.

I worked at Newmont Mining as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

As an intern, worked on projects that an entry level engineer would work on.

    Cons

The only bad thing about working here was the early mornings and commuting back and forth to work (roughly 40 minutes each way).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing, you do a great job of welcoming new employees and getting the up to speed on things.

I have been working at Newmont Mining full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Newmont has great benefits and career opportunities. I have been with the company for eighteen years and have worked in four different departments. Each change has brought career growth and significant increases in pay. Benefits are outstanding with both a pension and 401k retirement plan as well as company provided clinics and transportation to mine sites. There is a very strong committment to safety and the environment. Newmont's mine sites in Nevada are very diverse culturally with employees from 20 different countries. Every generation is represented with some employees working for Newmont for almost 50 years!

    Cons

Northeastern Nevada is very rural but the people are very friendly and there lots of recreational activities and community events to participate in. A great place to put down roots!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The recent management changes are having a positive effect. Things need to move forwad quickly so we are positioned to benefit from the next upturn in gold prices. I'd love to see a merger or acquisition like the most recent one with Fronteer.

I worked at Newmont Mining full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, job was easy.

    Cons

Rotating hours, and the junior high type atmosphere that is probably normal for mines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Getting rid of the rotating shift would probably be possible, despite the groaning of the work force who had to go on nights. This would help the health of the workforce imo.

I have been working at Newmont Mining

    Pros

    - 9-80 Work Schedule
    - 4+ weeks vacation on year one
    - inexpensive benefits
    - 20%+ annual bonus potential (10% individual performance and 10% company performance)
    - strong 401K
    - great people
    - lots of personal growth opportunities (lunch n learns, town hall meetings, online training, in-house training, tuition reimbursement, etc)

    Cons

    - long hours
    - no maternity leave (need to use PTO or go unpaided)
    - lots of gaps inbetween the ST and LT Disability benefits when you are in the first couple of years of employment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to empower your employees as Newmont grows. Don't get away from the family feel from years ago, for most employees enjoyed that aspect of the company.

    I worked at Newmont Mining

    Pros

Newmont Mining has an excellent business culture, they offer an excellent compensation package and the company is led by an outstanding CEO.

    Cons

Newmont is an international company, as such developing effective talent management systems is always a challenge. Career progression is somehow hindered by exposure to decision makers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Congratulations on doing a great job at managing the business. Price of Gold is at a old time record, nevertheless, don't underestimate the importance of cost controls systems and methodologies.
