I have been working at Next Retail part-time

    Pros

Good bonuses beyond the basic salary, flexible shifts, ability to take extra shifts on Marketplace.

    Cons

Being expected to work more than your contract hours (can be a positive to some), some individual members of staff treat the younger members of staff with some contempt. Fine if you aren't easily upset but if you are you may not like it.

    Advice to Management

Expect the same from all members of staff (some are allowed to get a away with a lot more than others).

    Pros

25% discount. Team are all lovely and friendly to work with. Getting a uniform allowance is brilliant and also getting first access to sale stock.

    Cons

Managers do not care if you are sick they make you feel guilty even though you are entitled to sick leave.

    Pros

Staff discount, uniform allowance, first dibs at sale items, chance to pick up extra shifts if desired, colleagues are frirendly

    Cons

Practically no christmas break, little to no formal training, no chance of progressing if your not one of the favourites, favourtism, contract hours are only a guide most of the time, management aren very understanding alot of the time

    Advice to Management

Its not the worst place to work but treat staff like people not slaves and stop the preferential treatment for less deserving staff its not fair

I have been working at Next Retail part-time

    Pros

it can be a good working environment at times, and the pay is reasonable with opportunities for progression

    Cons

it is a very stressful environment at sales times and it can be difficult for temporary staff to find their place

    Advice to Management

to be more understanding of temporary staff during sales times who are working round the clock in preparation for big sale days

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Over time always available through employee portal, 75% discount uniform allowance, 25% discount.

    Cons

    - Poor pay (No Sunday Premium, Normal rate of pay for bank holidays) - Bonus relying on 2 Mystery shopping experiences per month - Hard to progress - Have to apply for your contract every 1-2 years through contract consultations - Shifts can get cut/added without notifying you - No appreciation from management. - Massive turn over of staff (50% of the business staff leave within a year) - Management like to 'make things up as they go' (Procedures regarding the staff Handbook) - Demanding work hours through 'Red weeks' in July and December. - Putting you on shifts when you have no availability - Cannot booking holiday's in 7 weeks of the year half of July and the whole of December) - You practically don't have a Christmas - Have to work Christmas eve, Boxing day and 27th. - Store systems are poor (Have to ring Head office to change the air con settings!)

    Advice to Management

    - Show more appreciation to your staff! - Read the staff handbook before proceeding with investigations meetings/Disciplinary meetings

    Pros

Flexible hours, generous staff discount, well structured online portal allowing the booking of holidays, to pick up extra hours and cut back on hours that you can't do.

    Cons

Cash based incentives make the customer service great towards customers, but inter-staff relationships can suffer. Instore training is a bit thin, with more emphasis on you learning on your own time.
