I have been working at Next Retail part-time

    Pros

    Discount on clothes, friendly staff

    Cons

It was fun. The people I worked with were very hardworking , friendly and really supportive. The stockroom was always busy so shifts went by so quickly

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible working hours Friendly staff Monthly bonus Easy tasks Opportunities to get involved in other aspects of the company such as stock take, sale preparation and stock recall.

    Cons

Small contract and basic pay. Repetitive tasks with strict time limits. Physically draining work. Early starts. Management make decisions to make shop floor staff have an easier time (because bonuses are dependant on their performance during customer experience visits) - these decisions make delivery tasks harder eg leaving cubes on hangers. New system of working solo is fine but new employees will struggle at first and there is nowhere near enough space for everyone to have an individual work station - health and safety implications.

    Advice to Management

Consider all members of staff when making decisions. Shop floor staff do not have productivity targets to meet on scanners whereas delivery staff do. Try to understand the pressure we are under to meet targets.

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is doing very well so your job is secure here. You get bonuses every month (£20-60) if you get two 100% customer experience visits. Staff are friendly and if you're a hard worker you will progress quickly in the company.

    Cons

You start as temporary part time staff. Sometimes you get given 3 hour shifts which is pointless if you have to get a bus or drive there. Don't get paid enough for the work you have to do and how well the company is doing compared to every other retail company, we should be entitled to more.

    Pros

I have met some amazing people working here and I know they're life long friends, I feel like I can really work my way up the ladder, especially because I'm an apprentice I have really learnt more than others, which in turn puts me ahead of them.

    Cons

the buck for the hours isn't ideal but it's better than what the minimum is for an apprentice so I can't complain too much, but when the big man gets a 6 million pound bonus you start to question what he's doing so right and you're doing so wrong... :(

    Advice to Management

Temps need better training and making sure they're friendly and actually want to talk to the customers. And new staff need to be till trained more than once.

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have met so many new people working here. Most of who I will stay in touch with once I have left. The discount is also a pro. I really enjoy seeing customer satisfaction too although this is mostly down to you as an individual rather than the company.

    Cons

No appreciation from management for how much you do. Working here can be tough, especially during sale periods. You could work your hands to the bone through a late shift without as much as a thank you. Staff can be made to feel replaceable and this isn't a good relationship to have with a company.

    Advice to Management

Treat staff as partners. Without your staff the company would be nothing. Yes, we are all replaceable to some degree however there's some staff the company would be a fool to loose. Store managers should treat there staff with respect and not look down to them and order them to do things like slaves.

I have been working at Next Retail part-time

    Pros

Good bonuses beyond the basic salary, flexible shifts, ability to take extra shifts on Marketplace.

    Cons

Being expected to work more than your contract hours (can be a positive to some), some individual members of staff treat the younger members of staff with some contempt. Fine if you aren't easily upset but if you are you may not like it.

    Advice to Management

Expect the same from all members of staff (some are allowed to get a away with a lot more than others).
