I have been working at Next Retail

    Pros

You've never felt happiness like walking out of work at the end of your shift.

    Cons

You remember that you're working tomorrow, the next day and probably the next day and the next day after that

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to employees like they actually are normal people and not the age of 2
Actually consider our other lives outside of work (yes, we do have other lives) and understand we can't work shifts.

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Erm.... Discount for uniform, discounts

    Cons

Awful company to work for. Glad I left. After 6 years you would think they would treat you as a valuable member or stff but no. If I didn't hand my notice in I would of been fired FOR BEING SIGNED OFF!!!!!! (Assistant store manga get even told me that) despite my doctors note.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would seriously consider treating staff better. More praise instead of having so much negativity.
Staff that have been signed off, for good reason too, you might want to help and understand where they are coming from and be a bit more passionate not to drive them away and hand their notice in.

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good discount, able to move floors and priority over sale when the next sale comes in the summer.

    Cons

5am Summer sale which is compulsory, high turnover rate, temporary contracts so when you make a mistake they don't have to extend your contract, rubbish pay, no communication between staff, not allowed to swap shifts and can only work upto 20 hours on a part time contract.
along with 3 hour shift can also be allocated.. not even worth waking up for!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't employ people a couple of months and then train them up to then employ a new handful of people. It's ridiculous. even the people that wanted to stay was turfer out of thier own contracts.

I have been working at Next Retail

    Pros

    Discount.
    First dibs on Sale.
Company has good reputation in general with the public.
99% of customers are really pleasant.
    Having a nice, presentable uniform.
Getting paid correctly so far, just over minimum wage.
    Paid induction.
    Really good online employee portal.
Some staff members are nice (but after reading some reviews on here they are probably two faced; I hope not).

    Cons

Being spoken to and patronised like a child, I have also learnt not to ask for help anymore, as you just get looked down on, treat like you're stupid and expected to know everything from the off, which makes you look stupid in front of the customers.
I can't believe from the other reviews I've read that it happens in nearly every store, I expected better.
Being ignored, dehydration, feeling useless most of the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Happy staff are much more important than you think.

I have been working at Next Retail full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great team good discount good shares have scheme

    Cons

No holiday taken in December or July due to sales no security in the store shoplifting is an everyday thing no extra pay for bank holidays or Boxing Day full time staff are giving too much responsibility and never thanked for it always seems to be one rule for one and not for another Customers seem to be given gift cards for the abusive and poor behaviour just so next could keep them as customers while the staff are made to look like idiots

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Every member of staff should be treated the same full time staff need more support from there managers and as for bank holidays they should get extra pay and bonuses should be given to everyone every month the same why do managers get a stock loss bonus when it's the staff that catch the shoplifters?

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

one of the best things about working for Next is the 25% discount and the 75% uniform, however there is an allowance according to the number of contracted work hours.

    Cons

Holidays forms rarely looked at. Pay sometimes is wrong due to office staff. Availability looked at once a year if you're lucky !

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To look at your employee's and see who can work or cover other shifts. Check holidays regularly and come to a swift decision, not dragging the process out for weeks and then forgetting. delegate jobs outequally and not pile all on one person to hand out, this is a managers job and should make the workers feel like a team ! "There's no " I " in 'Team' , but there is at Next" !

I have been working at Next Retail full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people here are great. All lovely and fine to get on with, from the product systems teams to the kitchen staff, there's a great sense of camaraderie.

    Cons

There is also a culture, particularly in product teams, to work inexplicably long hours. People regularly work 10-12 hour days because the workload is high. This would be understandable if there were certain weeks of the year where things slowed; but this isn't the case (with the exception of christmas)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If people seem overworked and drained from long hours, they probably are. A lot of departments could be vastly imporved if only they had an admin to free up more of their time to do their job.
