ProsThe company treats people better than any other I have experienced. They are truly concerned with the well being of the individual. Nokia allows for a great deal of autonomy, flexibility, and career growth. I loved my time with Nokia.

ConsPoor company performance leads to instability. Poor communication from senior management.

    Now part of Microsoft

    Anonymous (Current Employee)

ProsGood Technology, good quality control , best quality mobile phone , Jormo Ollia CEO should come back to lead the company.

ConsVery conservative , lost the market.
It had touch screen technology about 20 years ago but fear to use it and not willing to take any risk so door wide open for Apple ...

    upward mobility and interesting work

    (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsProfessional management, growing, interesting work pushing the frontiers, world class amenities and resources, good salaries, Scandinavian corporate culture (empathy). I used to work at Apple and my job here is 10 times more interesting and the pressure is more reasonable. Since shedding the mobile phone business Nokia is profitable and growing.

ConsSome of the inertia of a big company, vestiges of a past that included downsizing (paranoid employees), Scandinavian corporate culture (lack of urgency, focus), bad food.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure the people at the top are really providing leadership, and a lot of other platitudes about trust and cooperation, encouraging creativity and innovation, etc.

Great company that values employees personal issues.

Principal Software Engineer (Former Employee) Burlington, MA

ProsNokia tries to stay very current. They are also a very global company. You will learn things about markets in other parts of the world that you did not think about before.

They respect their employees, and provide nice features in the buildings and benefits that they offer. Very considerate of employees.

Finland is great; if you get a chance to go there on a business trip - TAKE IT!

ConsThe effect of aligning too closely with Microsoft meant the end of many promising products that went in other directions. Too bad, since in high tech you really need to keep many future options available.

Stimulating company with a great ethic but ultimately not paranoid enough to hold their #1 worldwide mobility position.

Emerging Opportunities (Former Employee) Burlington, MA

ProsA truly global company that understands the local needs of almost every country in the world.

ConsBlind spots about competition with a culture of caution and "no".

ConsA slow mammoth and sometimes it is quite hard to move the machinery to the right way and pace.

Advice to Senior ManagementThat particularly spirit of swapping responsibilities on the Top Management. If you are an expert in Finance, why does Nokia move you to Marketing?
