    Retail Sales & Management Intern

Retail Management and Sales Intern (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsLoved working with other young and fun interns. The values of the company are carried out by their workers. You can earn a lot of money depending on how well you can sell.

ConsLong hours usually 8 hour days, and the anniversary sale is a madhouse! (however you make a lot of money)

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep sending interns to managers who are willing to help interns. Some managers do not want the added stress of dealing with an intern that is willing to learn the ends and outs of managing.

I am a sales professional at Nordstrom and absolutely love the management and team-working ethic within my department

Sales Person (Current Employee) Oakbrook Ter, IL

ProsI really liked how organized the training went. Along with that, I really enjoyed working in a team oriented environment while setting personal and team net profit goals

ConsThere aren't many cons, however, the only thing that would frustrate me would be customers that took advantage of Nordstrom's customer services. Another con would be the long hours

    Advice to Senior ManagementNone

Nordstrom is a great company and I loved working there.

Seasonal Sales Associate (Former Employee) Skokie, IL

ProsThere is a lot of room for growth and the compensations is good. The work environment is friendly and supportive. You also get a discount and employees are recognized for their hardwork. Sales are especially high during the sales. Sales associates work on commission and make money for opening credit cards. The managers want to help you and the training is very good.

ConsWhen there isn't a sale, sales tend to be very slow which can be frustrating. The work environment does get competitive and many old sales associates have a majority of the customers which makes selling difficult since you can only sell to people who walk in.

Working for Nordstrom has been a wonderful experience for me and I hope to move forward in the company.

Sales Associate (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsThough commission sales can be tough during parts of the year, if you truly commit to following up with customers and maximizing every customer experience you will do just fine.

ConsGetting hit with returns is something that is inevitable, but if you follow up with customers its easier to catch the return and hopefully turn it back around into a new sale.
