Great at first, bad as company went under

Hardware Engineer (Current Employee)
Research Triangle Park, NC

I have been working at Nortel Networks full-time for more than 5 years

ProsWhen I first started working there in 1997, it was really great.

ConsCompany went bankrupt. The last years of weekly world-wide layoffs were very stressful

Advice to Senior ManagementStop playing politics between divisions. You have competitors out there happy to take away your business.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

22 years of multiple roles

Senior Pricing Manager (Former Employee)
Alpharetta, GA

I worked at Nortel Networks full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood pay, benefits and people. In heyday, great product vision. Often developed evolutionary products that were firsts in the industry.

ConsHorrible management. Dishonest accounting and crazy acquisitions diluted stock. Over building of offices and factories led to way too much debt. Greed and poor planning. Success requried them to develop firsts to succeed. Operations and processes were poor

Advice to Senior ManagementToo late now. Should have gone slower with expansions instead of planning/assuming business would double year after year.

Good opportunity at a large company

Project Manager (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA

I worked at Nortel Networks full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood product line and vision. Good balance of customer and profit. Established processes and procedures. Capable leadership and large enough to provide opportunities for growth. Good teamwork between groups and communications from management is effective. Review process is effective and timely.

ConsIt is a big company so has some of the big company disadvantages. Decisions take some time to be approved and implemented. Upward mobility also is available but takes tie and patience. Not always effective in merging acquired companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementGood amount of communications. Good leadership and vision.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
