I have been working at North Star Resource Group as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great learning experience, no natural market required. Your mentors are always there to help. You will be rewarded if you put the work in.

    Cons

A LOT of cold calls, interview process in pretty long, don't expect lucrative pay.If you really wan't to be considered for a full time job, you must put in some pretty long hours.

    Pros

    Independence
Ability to grow your own business
Very friendly people who are passionate about helping people with their financial affairs.

    Cons

    Mundane work
    Lack of mentoring among management
    Typical depressing intern environment

    Advice to Management

Try to inspire more excitement among your interns. Your output will only be so great if your inputs aren't excited to be there.

That is incredibly admirable that you know yourself well enough to see early on that this is not the right fit for you. We are constantly working on improving the internship experience and sincerely ... More

Mentor system leaves a lot to be desired.

    Pros

    Unlimited comission
    Working with very intelligent people

    Cons

    Very expensive to finance
You get advances, so if you quit you have to pay it all back. You're basically trapped.
You are told what needs to be done, but very little about how.
    Training program needs work.
They say you will have a flexible schedule, but you are expected to be "on" 24/7

    Advice to Management

Actually train during the training program instead of just expect people to figure it out. And don't just use them to do all your marketing, and then force them out.

Insurance focus on advisors, support personnel have little room for growth.

    Pros

For advisors, your income potential is only limited by your ability to sell product to individual consumers in your network. The people are generally quite nice and welcoming.

    Cons

Pretty low pay for support staff. Also, lacked the necessary middle management required to effectively train support staff employees. This can be quite difficult for a recent college graduate.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to develop internally with an emphasis on sales processes for new advisors and better training for support staff. This should allow for their greater success, and yours.
