I have been working at Northern Trust

    Pros

Managers are very supportive. Very much work-life oriented company. Training and growth are very much encouraged.

    Cons

I would need to investigate further as to whether or not I'm paid fairly. I don't think that they have annual salary increased any longer, unless you have a major expectation change.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time

    Pros

Excellent working environment. Wholesome climate. Corporate culture built on strong ethics and placing the client's best interests first. Excellent professional resources. Top tier clients. Intelligent, hard-working colleagues. Great benefits, lots of vacation time.

    Cons

Below average salaries, above average work load. Struggles with technology. Bureaucratic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve staffing allocations so that workload is more evenly distributed. Add staff to client facing teams so that relationship managers have time to be more proactive with clients.

I have been working at Northern Trust

    Pros

    - Excellent reputation
    - Top-tier client base
    - Best work/life balance in the industry (at least in Wealth Management)
    - Opportunities to move within firm
    - Everyone is approachable and networking is appreciated
    - Many career related perks - mentors, education assistance, ability to seize opportunities around firm, etc.
    - I personally work on the investment management team and can say almost all of my colleagues are well educated, intelligent, & hard-working

    Cons

    - Can be competitive internally but expected in an investment management environment
    - The firm as a whole can be somewhat slow to adopting new/contemporary methodologies
    - Pay is average in most departments however this can be avoided if you make worthwhile career-moves
    - Pressure to get advanced degrees/certification (may be a negative for some)
    - Firm-wide communication is adequate but can be improved upon

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Efficiently adopt changes, Northern Trust has an industry-leading reputation but needs a slight catch-up in technology, methodologies, etc.
    - Continue to push for better investment performance, this is a must for client retention and further business development
