    Where to begin?

    Financial Analyst (Former Employee)
    Rolling Meadows, IL

ProsInteresting industry, exposure to government contracts, good resume builder if you can stand to stay long enough

ConsWhen I arrived for my first day, I found out that the person who hired me had retired and nobody knew which department I was supposed to be in, who would be my manager, where my desk was, etc. I did not have a computer nor any training or communication with anyone at the management level for 1.5 months. I sent my resignation to an administrative assistant in the office where HR finally found me a place to sit and I never heard back from anyone regarding it.

    Gets worse each year

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Carson, CA

ProsWork-life balance, you just do your 9 hours and go home. Unless there's a deadline, you won't work overtime very often. Friendly coworkers.

ConsExtremely low pay for your experience level. Management has cut the pay raises for the last 2 years for "budget reasons", so after 2-3 years your salary is far below the industry average. Upper/middle management is very poor. They wonder why our annual engagement (i.e. employee morale) surveys are so low each year, but then cut our raises and have no incentive in place for hard work.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want to actually keep your talented people, then PAY them what they're worth. After years of working hard to only get a microscopic raise each year, people will either leave for better paying work, or get demotivated and just work really lazily. And enough with trying to blow smoke to your employees by telling them that a 2% raise is actually "very good"

    started great; ended miserable

    Manufacturing Analyst (Current Employee)
    Baltimore, MD

Prospay and benefits.. most of the people are wonderful.

ConsI am still haunted and upset. If you get the wrong boss watch out. nothing is fair.. all politics. Never go to HR for help. They always take managers side. Fit in with the culture. Keep your mouth shut, do your job, and go home. Never try to shine... you will be sorry. I worked harder and longer. My boss was threatened and found a way to get me out. My first boss was a dream come true. Second boss nightmare. She made up lies, was condescending, and only got the job after 30 years because she was a woman. Terrible micromanager who didn't care about company.. only cared about saving her own skin and being right.

Advice to Senior ManagementLot of politics within organization.

Get great work experience and free education. Then GET OUT.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Rolling Meadows, IL

ProsThe company paid for my certifications and masters degree
    Awesome work experience

ConsUnless you are somehow in the "in crowd" you will not go very far in this company. After 5to 10 years, it will be a road to nowhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange the company culture by giving people that don't look like you a chance at leadership and SUPPORT them.

    Very dissatisfied after 7 years

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe group which I work with is the best group of professionals I've ever worked with. I've learned a lot and I've been able to make some meaningful contributions. The 9/80 schedule makes it easier for employees to maintain a better work/life balance

ConsI've had some bad supervisors over the years but my current supervisor is the worst I've ever had. After being in the work force for more than 20 years, never have I had a worse one until now. My current supervisor does not give me any direction and goes out of their way not to communicate with me. When this supervisor does speak to me, it's to remind me of all the past mistakes I've done. As a result, I've discovered this place is not the most nurturing of places to work.

Over the last 5 years, NGC has diminished their employee benefits. Medical insurance costs have gone up, according to NGC, due to the passage of the Health Care Reform Act. As a result, co-pays have doubled and our health care insurance rates have gone up as well.
NGC had also taken away 5 days of personal time off during XMAS and New Year's.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet better front line supervisors or perhaps give them a refresher course on positive supervisor/employee communication

Stuck in the past, little innovation, too much management.

    Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsExceptional work life balance. I was never asked to stay late. 40 hour work weeks, on the dot, plus the 9/80 schedule.

Higher management is competent, and responsive. If you can ever find time to get a hold of them.

ConsEmployees seem to just want to "do their hours" and get home. There's no passion for the product.

Too much middle management (and old middle range engineers), filled with self centered and arrogant people who have been in their positions for decades. You do it their way, or it doesn't happen at all. It's trickle down engineering. The higher ups make all the decision and there is no consideration given for ideas that come from below, regardless of their merit.

Engineers have seemingly been there forever. Some looked at me quizzically when I asked Java questions.

Advice to Senior ManagementNobody would really listen. And that's the problem. The younger people have good ideas, but the entrenched management just doesn't listen.

For the day i was hired till I left, I hated working for NGIS

    Cyber Systems Administrator (Current Employee)
    Annapolis Junction, MD

ProsI honestly don't have one good thing to say about the company.

ConsCo-workers were out to get me because I was younger cheaper talent. HR could not have screwed up more getting me on the job site. It took a month ! Once I did start working on the job site, I had two people who had been on the contract for 6 years basically talk crap to me day in and out till I left, because of their fear of me taking their job. Management was well aware of the situation and did nothing.
