    Outstanding for veterans and reservists

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCompany is extremely supportive of veterans and active reservists. Very military-friendly. Goes far above and beyond USERRA requirements.

    ConsConventional corporate cube-farm structure.

It was a good experience with lots of opportunities for growth

    Software Engineer IV (Former Employee)
    Elkridge, MD

Prosupper management not planning work force requirements. Favoring cheaper inexperienced grads over existing staff professionals.

Consit seems that experienced talent is being forced out which will cause major mistakes and delays on projects

Advice to Senior Managementvalue your experienced workers because they ARE your best assets

Fantastic Work Environment. Best internship ever!

    Systems Engineer (Former Employee)
    Clearfield, UT

ProsLeadership showed a deep interest in the overall happiness and success of employees. The work was technically challenging and rewarding. The atmosphere was very positive and friendly. I was particularly impressed with the degree of organization that the company operates with. Everyone really seemed to be on the same page. People knew exactly what was expected of them and what they needed to do in order to accomplish their tasks.

ConsAs a systems engineer, I didn't have much opportunity to put my college degree to work (though I had to use math and physics to solve problems). The only reason I left was to see if I would actually enjoy Electrical Engineering as opposed to Systems Engineering. Probably not the best reason to leave.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Once a great company to work for, but for how much longer?

    Program Manager III (Current Employee)

ProsI have worked for NG for 15 years and loved it. People were treated like valuable resources. Compensation and benefits have traditionally been top notch. Quality mentoring program, excellent training resources and best of all – quality people to work with. Facilities and other resources were well maintained and plentiful. As with all large companies there are some challenges, but generally a great work environment!

ConsThe significant downturn in government programs over the last couple years have caused NG to do more than simply scale back. Pay raises are trivial, less benefits even though rates escalate. Resources are difficult to come by and staff members always worry if they are the next to fall.
The challenges that NG is facing are not uncommon to defense contractors, but I fear that a company that has traditionally been an industry leader is fading into just another government contractor. NG has recently released a new series of TV ads that depict NG as continuing to be a cutting edge company, and in many ways they still are. However, in an attempt to continually increase sales the company seems willing to chance any contract that might have funding, regardless of its within NG’s core competencies. This change has had dramatic impact on traditionally stable knowledge base of the NG staff. NG management is funding capture efforts that often require the company to hire new skill sets at the expense of legacy personnel. The result of this behavior is that individuals are frequently worried about the future and are more aware of external job opportunities. People who would gladly enjoy a lifetime career at NG are now always on the lookout for an exit strategy. If you look long enough you will find something …

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider the following:
    1) What is the ratio of employees who directly impact our deliverables to those that do not?
    2) What is the ratio of employees who actually interact with our customers compared to those who do not?
    3) What is the ratio with respect to compensation?
    4) What percentage of employees seriously expect to finish their careers at NG? (Might be a good question for the Gallup surveys)

Constakes time to move up within the company, you need to put in a lot of years to see the rewards. don't work here if you are looking to make millions in one day... this is a company for chess players not checker players

    Good.

    Senior Engineer (Current Employee)
    Redondo Beach, CA

ProsInteresting work. Some challenging issues. Some non-government related work that is of greater interest than the old systems sponsored through the military.

ConsBenefits diminishing by the day. Pension plan has been cancelled. Harder and harder to make a livable wage as pay increases are almost non existent, and taxes, fee's, and state and federal issues far exceed any monetary gain made (especially for the area in which we work, i.e. Redondo Beach, CA - wish they'd relocate to Texas). Can't really get ahead anymore. Salaried employee's tend to be worked to death without any additional monetary compensation. These are not really complaints as it is the same everywhere in the bigger aerospace companies (I've worked for them all at some time or another throughout my career).

Advice to Senior ManagementThe pension plan should never have been terminated.

Great company going through transition with government downturn

    Engineer III (Former Employee)
    Herndon, VA

ProsVery efficient company wide services (IT, HR, etc). Management is receptive to suggestions. Competent coworkers.

ConsThe defense industry is going through a long downturn. The company has dealt with this well but be aware that there is no job security when contracts dry up. Health insurance plans changed.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue doing what you are doing. Listen to your employees whenever you can.

    Excellent opportunity for growth

    Senior Instructional Designer (Former Employee)
    Radcliff, KY

ProsGood benefits, compensation package. Great work environment. Opportunity for upward mobility.

ConsMy site last location was not indicative of the way this company normally runs. Managers were controlling and at times disrespectful of individual workers.

    No opportunity for professional education/enrichment.

Advice to Senior ManagementEach site should exude the company values.
