I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of responsibility, work in teams, direct access to management team, autonomous work.

    Cons

Working in gray areas more often than not, hardly any raises or promotions given. Can only move up when someone leaves the firm.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual

    Pros

Flexibility: your work schedule is completely up to you
Commission Potential: If you are willing to put the work in this can be a very profitable internship for the amount of hours you work

    Cons

Initial phoning: When you first start they will want you to come with a list of 100+ names ready to call. This is a reachable target but not always fun to call on friends and family. That stated, my best closing and success rates were when I was calling on people I already knew, and specifically trying to reach out to people I thought would benefit from Northwestern's products and services.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great Management and support throughout my internship. The greatest benefit I have noticed for myself is the ability to come to upper management with any questions within the financial industry, whether for an open case of mine or even just something I had been curious about.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

There's a good working culture and atmosphere here that promotes process improvements and diversity and inclusion. If you have the right position, there can be a good work-life balance too.

    Cons

Lots of change at the moment, which leads to confusion about which way is the right way to do things. Training is not a big strong suit and many times are left to interpret things on your own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change is good, but it may be necessary to slow it down a bit to give your employees a chance to catch up and not get so stressed out.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual

    Pros

Overall you will learn the very basic process of insurance and investment provided by NM. If you want to work in insurance or wealth management field it may be useful. Your manager won't be in the office a lot, which i guess its good.

    Cons

You will probably learn everything in two weeks and repeat everything again and again. Lots of details and lots of typings.
