Former Contractor - Analytical Scientist in Lincoln, NE

I worked at Novartis as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Excellent work environment, well managed, opportunity to learn, good work/life balance, stimulating work, opportunity to get lots of great hands on experience, able to apply theory in practice

    Cons

As a contractor there was little chance to get hired on as a full time associate, good if you want a job for just a year or two between going back to grad school

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide health care to contract employees. Contractors are treated as equals in the workplace, this is very much appreciated, but salary and benefits for contractors are far below. If you need a contractor for more than a year, then you need a regular associate :)

    Pros

Good training. Stable products at the time.

    Cons

To many cliff patents. Portfolio has now suffered and current produce are me-to products. Lost it's punch. Pipeline is slim despite what you read.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I go beyond management. Advise to leadership-CEO get on the same page as he reps. Understand the industry and you will find your answers for field reps.

    Pros

Flexible hours, summer hours, benefits, unlimited sick days, week off between Christmas & New Year

    Cons

Not all Admins are allowed flex time/WFH. They overwork Admins. Too many policies and meetings. Jobs are thrown at Admins at last minute & need a fast turn around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the support staff feel like a part of the team & not outsiders.
