    Pros

    -Paychecks are the biggest pros!
    -Medical benefits.

    Cons

-No career growth. You can stay in your position for years, even decades, and not be given the opportunity to advance.
    - It is a very top-down company in all levels. Managers treat employees like crap.

    Advice to Management

Employees are human being too! They want to advance in their career. Stop playing games.

    Pros

    Decent wages and good people.
The board has decided to replace Phil.
    Communication slowly improving.

    Cons

It's a shame that Phil was allowed to do what he did to this company. While I commend his efforts in expanding our business opportunities the fact that he destroyed the trust and ruined the work environment that had stood for over 50 years in our plant is horrendous. He will go down in history as the CEO that was still able, in this day and age, to drive a plant to unionize. Pretty sad honestly.

    Advice to Management

Stop recruiting and start promoting, and no I don't mean the few people you have hired over the last few years with all intentions of promoting anyway. You have a lot of very knowledgeable and capable people on your shop floor already that can help lead this company in the future. As more and more new employee's are hired you would be foolish to not look to these people to guide you, even if it means swallowing your pride to do so.

Keep up with the communication and if possible make it feel a little more authentic. A lot of us get the feeling that the new department HR reps feel more inconvenienced than enthused to be out and actually communicating with us. Still a step in the right direction though.

    Pros

Still have good manufacturing assets and some good people.

    Cons

The culture of this company has become toxic. Many talented people are leaving and they seem oblivious to the fact that they have a problem. Many senior managers are incompetent and treat people terribly. HR is a joke. Cutting retiree benefits so many people that have put in 30-40 years now have to deal with health premiums 3-4 times higher than what they had. After many years of dedicated service I was treated terribly. Absolutely 0 loyalty anymore. Customers see this change for the worse and wonder what is going on. But it only gets worse.

    Advice to Management

Instead of bringing in everyone from the outside that have "the proper background"' but know absolutely nothing about the business, start utilizing the people already there who are being stifled in their attempts to get promoted. HR have no regard for the employees, they just tow the company line. Root out some of the upper managers that think they are the smartest people in any room, but alienate and demotivated their employees.

    Pros

Decent pay. Free soda and snacks in the break rooms.

    Cons

Novelis is worried about their turnover rate so they give you a high salary with a bad title to essentially "trap" you and keep you locked in place from ever leaving the company and getting a better job elsewhere. If you didn't go to a tier 1 university forget about ever getting promoted unless you're good friends with middle and upper management. Also, get use to 2-3% raises every year. You will also spend half your day in meetings.

    Advice to Management

Stop having so many pointless meetings.

    I worked at Novelis

    Pros

Good pay, good work/life balance & telecommute when needed

    Cons

Upper management refuses to listen to the individuals that know the business. The "C" level management team manages towards a timeline without considering the financial, production and most importantly morale impacts.
The attrition rate is consistently above 50% which means large projects continue to falter creating a slippery slope for the above mentioned issue.

    Advice to Management

The P&L, production volume and attrition rate speak for themselves.
New facilities will not solve your issues; only attempt to mask the real source of the problems.

    Pros

The only thing going for this company is a decent wage for our area. Benefits are being chiseled away with every passing contract.

    Cons

Harassment and hostile work environment is not only present but condoned. Management and HR allow such behavior to keep employees in check. This is not only a practice of local management but of corporate also. The code of conduct that Novelis has is nothing more than a pretty wrapper.I myself have delt with a hostile work environment for 10 years with the perpetrators being basically given a pat on the back.FMLA is frowned upon even when your wife is fighting breast cancer.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying and do the right thing. We are humane beings with lives anf families.Loyalty and respect go both ways.

    Pros

Creating an environment rich in opportunity to conduct a Harvard case study in how to destroy employee trust, loyalty and eventually productivity.
Financial results illustrate how to drive results through eliminating retiree benefits, with the impact serving as a direct reward to Senior Leadership in the form of amended Long Term incentive bonuses.

    Cons

Centralized management structure destroying cultural value.
Leadership team unable and unwilling to bring balance to dictatorial management process driven by Mr. Martens.
Lack of integrity characterized by misleading and incorrect statements made regarding the elimination of retiree health care.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and take meaningful action in response to the message driven home by the Oswego employees.
