I have been working at NuStar Energy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Coming to work everyday is not just a job but coming to work with family. The department that I work in treats everyone equal from top to bottom.

    Cons

Have to bide your time for promotions as they are sometimes take a while to happen in our department. Seems like some other departments it happens a little more frequently.

    I worked at NuStar Energy

    Pros

Compensation, benefits, focus on safety, community involvement, family oriented events, were some very good reasons to work at NuStar Energy.

    Cons

Career progression can be stagnant depending on supervisor. Some managers lack training in subordinate development, but this could be said about any company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A manager needs to be a leader who is responsible for the professional development of subordinates.

I worked at NuStar Energy as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Intelligent and friendly managers who truly care about interns' career development and take the time to share their knowledge and advice with them; interns are entrusted with substantive, meaningful assignments; well-organized company that is at the forefront of the pipeline industry

    Cons

The office is located in a rather remote area (far northwest); since the company is not huge, departments are not always able to extend permanent employment offers to interns

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up your familial, supportive nature!

    Pros

Lots of support form your regional and corporate leadership team. Good pay, and excellent benfit packages. 401K company match, etc.

    Cons

NuStar is seriously focused on environmental and compliance, because of this and other things, the decision making can take to long.

I have been working at NuStar Energy full-time

    Pros

At NuStar, you feel like you're part of a family, versus a number. The management team works hard to take care of the employees by providing great benefits and compensation. While we've had a tough couple of years financially, we still received bonuses and merit increases, which says a lot about the commitment to employees.

    Cons

We've had a tough couple of years, but management has refocused the company on our core business, pipelines and terminals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep listening to the employees and making NuStar an even better company to work for.

I have been working at NuStar Energy

    Pros

Very Professional Atmosphere mixed with relaxed low pressure environment. Employees are trusted, and empowerment is visible through the company. A great sense of pride is visible in every department, great sense of respect from peers and managers. Great pay and benefits, bonus, stock options, it makes a difference when acompany is trying to be the best.

    Cons

NuStar is still small company in comparison, but still growing after spin off from Valero, The roots are strong and some employees need to get over the spin off from Valero. Although its nice to volunteer to help others, its seem like it’s a job requirement, If you don’t pledge to volunteer or donate to the United Way, you feel like you job would be at stake.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share information on salary grade, publish salary ranges. Be more open, Salary ranges/earning potential shouldn’t be a secret.

Don't be so head strong in the volunteer arena, employees feel like it’s a condition of employment, your using your employees to support you own ideals.
