    Good experience

    Product Marketing (Former Employee)
    Pocatello, ID

ProsManagement is easy to talk to. Salaries are fair, especially given the fact we live in a low cost area of the country.

ConsThey "have" you because they're the only semiconductor game in town, and most people don't want to move away.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet thinking about how you're going to better compete against standard products.

Interesting and boring all at once

    Intern I (Current Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsIntern work load can be a lot, but overall its easy. You never end up taking your work home which is nice. You get the chance to network a lot and during the summer, there is a big emphasis on making sure that interns have fun as there are lots of activities and events going on then.

ConsIf you want a more demanding experience as an intern, intern somewhere else. I personally feel as if I was rarely given any real responsibility and I don't like that. Communication can be good at times, but overall, if unless you're a manager, you tend to be left in the dark. Very siloed mentality overall exists.

Advice to Senior ManagementRe-implement the rotational programs! Just be smart about it and actually do them for longer than 6 months if costs are a concern! Most companies attract and retain talent through such programs and they last 18 months per rotation usually. ON is losing out on talented individuals who aren't getting the opportunities to have the kind of experiences that they need coming straight out of college.

My experience was ON was invaluable, as i learnt a lot of supply chain concepts, and was able to contribute effectively.

    Global Supply Chain (Current Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsIt is a growing company in the semiconductor industry. Great scope for improvement and career opportunities within the Supply Chain Organization.

ConsON Semiconductor's culture and work environment is a little relaxed. It isn't a fast paced and dynamic work envirnment if you are expecting one.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior Management is doing a great job. They could also work on creating a solid college recuiting plan each year, so that they are able to capture the best talent from well known universities.

Overall a good exposure to work in the semiconductor industry

    Intern (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

Pros- Friendly and flexible people to work with.
    - Nice internship program with presentations and interpersonal skill development activities.
    - Get a chance to participate in real-industry projects.

    Cons-Hot phoenix weather in summers.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe outlook of the people at higher management is very business oriented, which is a good in most cases. But sometimes, it takes away the drive for doing things really well if the motivation is just to meet the business requirements.

    Growth oriented company.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsThey are willing to invest in employee education. They are growing by acquisition. Atmosphere is somewhat informal and flexible. Finance department has done a terrific job of managing post-Motorola spin-off debt burden. Sales Leadership has typically been very positive with a 'can-do' attitude. They are a strong player in the discrete markets.

ConsRating and ranking system of 360 degree reviews can be very political.
Somewhat regular waves of layoffs and frequent re-organizations-very demoralizing.
Not uncommon for frequent job (lateral) changes do to frequent re-orgs. This can make it difficult to see strategic work through to completion (we all want to feel we accomplished something).
SVP of HR manages upward and is rarely seen meeting with employees below leadership level positions (C-level, VPs and directors).

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide some stability to employees. Don't re-organize so frequently. It rarely fixes much and mostly makes it look like you have no better strategic ideas and feel obligated to make some kind of change.

Have Senior HR get to know employees. Have HR take a more active and positive role in strategy. When people see HR in their area they expect surprise layoffs, this is very demoralizing and not a necessary image. They can do so much more if they are empowered to act as 'organizational development' instead of headcount management. Focus on career development.

Break down the silos between departments. Show the people that what's best for the company is what needs to be done instead of allowing people to protect their 'turf'. Don't punish people for doing this. People do what you financially motivate them to do. Beware of unintended consequences of well intentioned initiatives.

Overall, you have done a terrific job of turning around a company that almost didn't survive. Build a culture from that.

Keith Jackson and Don Colvin have steered the company through some difficult times and established a vision for turnaround and growth. Keith appears a bit introverted for a CEO. Get to know your marketers, sales people, apps people, etc. below the division leadership management. Find out what they need to succeed. You're capable of break-out performance.

    Solid place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Santa Clara, CA

ProsWell run, steady growth and improvement in products. Good work-life balance. Lots of flexibility to create your own job and take on new responsibilities. Keith Jackson is a great evolutionary CEO who likes to make good incremental improvements in the company and is pursuing growth through acquisition.

ConsLack of cutting-edge products, long development times, there can be a lot of office politics, especially in Phoenix. The company is relatively cheap with expenditures and forced vacation and salary cuts are very common. (This could be a positive for shareholders, not so much for employees.)

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide substantial monetary incentives to each employee in the product development chain to lower the average cycle time of their part of the design cycle.
