    Pros

Because it is a private company it uses long-term perspective to drive the culture rather than quarter-to-quarter results. There is a lot of collaboration between employees and departments. No feeling of internal competitiveness that could squash collaboration.

    Cons

Most employees are hired right out of college which is great and has built a stable workforce. But, the views of those from outside the company are not taken as seriously which causes too much insular decision making or decision making based on little to no experience elsewhere. Offers no long-term incentive programs either in the form of equity or cash.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Base compensation is reasonably competitive. But, no one knows what bonus target if any they have. It is not transparent and leaves employees wondering where the bonus came from and how the amount was arrived at. Additionally, the company needs to share more of the profits and use some kind of long-term equity or cash program so employees can build a nest-egg.

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time

    Pros

    -Great job security
-Good group of people (for the most part)
    -Relaxed environment
-A good option for Engineering undergraduate students who are interested in full-time software opportunities after college

    Cons

-Inter-Department communications are weak or absent, so there are a lot of headaches that would be avoided if we had much better communication.
-Our main office in San Leandro is not a good building. It is absolutely antiquated.
-Career growth/development is put on the backburner at times.
-No 401K matching; No Stock options; Lunch subsidy is weak (at least in San Leandro).
-As the company grows, so does the amount of management, to the point of hindering the real solutions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget about what made this company great in the beginning; a company culture built around the curiousity and persistence of strong engineers and technical folks

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Job security is at a high level. Employees are friendly, highly educated, and a pleasure to work with (most). Great work/life balance in most departments.

    Cons

Benefits are below average. Must pay 20% of healthcare premiums out of pocket. No 401k match. No stock options. Bonuses are rare and marginal. Unless you are performing in the upper 2%, don't expect to get compensated well (compared with the industry).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve benefits to align with the rest of the tech industry.

Nice people, but organization leaves something to be desired

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Friendly, very trustworthy people
    - Fairly rational approach to money usage
    - Comparatively tight-knit feel for an expanding company
    - Opportunity to get into small, conservative projects
    - Perfectly fine place to be for now

    Cons

    - Scattered departments
    - Poor communication between business and technical segments of company
    - Never retires products (which is easier to do initially, but becomes significantly harder over time)
    - Some questionable personnel decisions
    - Taking a larger proportion of undergraduates who lack experience in critical thinking and not training them
    - Tech support is where people come in, but not where they want to stay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a lot of opportunity that we haven't put to full use yet. Tech support bears a large burden of the business, but does not seem to be given much power to drive changes to let them do their job better. Assorted departments are pulling in opposite directions, and there is increasing confusion and inefficiency. The company is no longer at a size that one can "just walk up to any open door," yet there still seems to be a misconception that good ideas are actually getting to management's door. Instead good ideas are getting cast aside without bubbling up, lost in an unspoken hierarchy.

There's some great talent still in the company and hopefully they can be given more freedom and opportunity to drive new projects that span multiple departments. We need to prepare for a time when the memories of the open-door days are gone, because with some foresight, we can position ourselves to foster internal growth and have fresh ideas, even as we get bigger.

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people are terrific, skilled, smart, friendly, very hard-working. Upper management is very communicative. The company is *very* successful. Lateral movement encouraged - they want you to spend your career here and have rather incredible employee retention.

    Cons

San Leandro HQ is slightly disgusting, cramped, borderline filthy. There's talk of a new building but no ground has been broken. Perks are few - smallest raise I've ever received for turning in a very respectable year. Very flat hierarchy is confusing ("We have no managers").

    Pros

Employees are the best reason to work at OSIsoft

    Cons

Because it is a family-run, private company, there are a lot of internal politics.

I have been working at OSIsoft

    Pros

The people are great. Sharing of knowledge is and excellent, friendly experience. The flexibility, and opportunity for knowledge growth, training, and access to high tech is abundant. Funding is also abundantly available for projects the business sees as important, and the business managers are open to proposals for funding of new hardware and software to bring the company up to "state of the art."

    Cons

Some lack of structure, and communication. In some cases too much responsibility, and too much cross training encouraging "mediocre jack of all trades, and master of none" environment. Also, the company can't stop growing very quickly, and from within this growth comes an insatiable thirst for new projects every few weeks, leaving little room or time to complete the previous project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace, support, and enforce change of current OSIsoft employee culture from one of catering to not only employees but upper managements every whim, to one of a structured and painfully well planned out solid industry standard and sanctioned "ways of doing things right or correctly" environment.
