I have been working at Occidental Petroleum

    Pros

Oil is cheaper, gas is up !!!

    Cons

Full of gas up to my neck. Training are you kidding me ??? Every company in the States is coming w/that crap. Years ago was with experience that you were hired, now is, we have people from China, Russia, Ukrainian, they do not a damn thing about nothing but need training. I spent $50,000 dollars in my education and the creeps that we have nowadays in employment and principals of big corporations developed the idea to screw up Americans w/ this immigration and teachings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With oil and gas getting so cheap, are you willing to pay my salary or management is studying which will be the next scam or Ponzi scheme. Greedy is the name of the word. Look the Russian founder of this company left to his wife; laugh at this : ONE BILLION DOLLARS (1,000,000,000) !! NO! I DON'T WANT TO GO TO LIBYA NOW !!!

Well-managed, intelligent employees, good work-life balance, excellent benefits, decent pay.

    Cons

    Pros

California Operations has a great work environment. Manager push for personal and professional growth while giving adequate direction on projects.

    Cons

As a upstream company the marketing and public relations side is slim. Also, being a mid size company the availability of locations is also minimal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More community involvement and being proactive not reactive in the oil/gas industry needs to change.

I have been working at Occidental Petroleum full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Given lots of responsibility from Day 1 even if it is something you are not experienced with. They aren't going to spend a lot of time training you, you can request training, but be prepared to hit the ground running. People are generally friendly and helpful. Can be tense/stressful working on large CapEx projects, but I am sure it would be that way anywhere

    Cons

All that responsibility! It's yours and yours to own. If you aren't keeping up with your work it will be very obvious.
Expected to work overtime/late despite being on a salary. Probably my biggest complaint, I understand it is needed sometimes but wish the culture was a little different with regards to this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know when to be cheap and when being cheap is just costing the company more. Lots of cost savings measures, but at the same time it seems like sometimes the cheap/fast approach ends up costing the company more than if a little more time and money had been invested up front.
More transparency with bonuses/performance reviews, etc.
