Office Depot is a great place to start off

CSS II, Copy Center (Current Employee) Edmond, OK

ProsThe people I worked with. Mainly the managers at my store, 2085. The training was very helpful.

ConsSome of the customers are rude, but that comes with the field of sales. The training was helpful, but long.

Advice to Senior ManagementThanks... for helping us in the cleaning of the store.

    - work environment is relaxed, though customers are given attention
    - discount for employees worth it

Cons- sometimes overnight shifts are necessary for stockers due to sheer amount of products

Office Depot: A Great Place to Work

    Cashier (Current Employee) Longview, TX

ProsThe pro's of working at Office Depot is that every that I have come into contact with is so friendly! Also, the managers are really nice & on my second day on the job every knows my name. I love the fact that we use walkies to communicate, it makes things so conveniant. The training is great because it's 100% hands on- you watch for just a few minutes and then you actually start running the register but help IS NEVER far away. I love working here!

ConsThe only down side for me is the pay. They I have 1 year of retail exp. (5mo of that was a leader position) and they started me out at .65 over minimum wage, but that is my only con.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou're doing a great job of running things, giving feed back, and making new employees welcome and thank you for being so patient with new employees!

    We survived 2009

Director (Current Employee) Boca Raton, FL

ProsCompany that knows how to survive tough environments. Leadership shares current economic conditions of the company and the nation with it's employees. Office Depot is as concerned with the direction of national ecomonic health as it is about it's own. Steve Odland is a great leader in though ecomomic times.

ConsCompany is lead by emotion and has few people that are experts in the job field. Leadership does not hold associates accountable for sales or poor decisions. Youth and inexperience are making the real decisions that effect the companies bottom line.

Advice to Senior ManagementRun the company based on the numbers. Know the numbers and be the leaders. Leave your emotion and spouces opinions at the door. Talk to the customer (Small Business Owner) to plot our direction.

    Excellent.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Collierville, TN

ProsOffice Depot's hours are definitely a plus -- opening and closing isn't terrible. The management is excellent at my store. They have respect for every one of their employees, and it's honestly a great place to work. Back to school sales are awesome and terrifying at the same time.

ConsMinimum wage isn't stellar, but the bonus opportunities are definitely there if you work hard. The add-ons to tech items can be difficult to sell. The training program is redundant and long, but it *is* necessary to cover all your bases before you're out on the floor.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe personality test really isn't the best way to find a good candidate for a CSS position. Then again, I have issues with personality tests (and "ethics" tests) on a whole. I'm glad that the interview was laid-back, and that the managers treat their employees well. Good work comes from mutual respect.

    A great place to work

District Sales Manager (Current Employee) Philadelphia, PA

ProsOffice Depot offers a great foundation. The associates that I am surrounded by truly care about our company and customers.

ConsWe are seeing growth in sectors and commodities. Additional headcount may be able to accelerate this growth.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to provide the vision and direction to all associates. We can see the results of our hard work paying off in the field.
