I have been working at Office Depot full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    It's better than most retail.

    Cons

No support from corporate as far as in stocks and getting supplies. No equal pay among managers with more experience. Managers who are brought in from outside the company are making more than managers who have worked from the bottom up. Two many things going on at once. New memos, new guides, new policies, new procedures coming out everyday. Most stores are too understaffed to get everything done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of all the extra BS and let us just take care of our customers. Pay your managers what they are worth. Appreciate the good ones and get rid of the bad ones.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Job is easy and time passes by. The costumers that come in are mostly regulars and know them on first name basis.

    Cons

Pay is low. Managers pick favorites and shows signs of sexism in a workplace. If you ask for help other co workers will ignore you. Poor communication between management. Very high turnover rate. People blaming and pointing fingers for stuff you didn't do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication and managers need to get there stuff together and respect their employees instead of looking down to them.

    Pros

Good people looking to provide great value added solutions

    Cons

Merger has caused an environment of confusion. Support staff is overworked and not trained properly. Frustration has permeated the work environment. No one knows where to go to get things done. Management is in denial and refuses to believe that it is leaving its employees in a no win situation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take responsibility and help you employees be successful.

    Pros

Office depot has some very loyal customers a great copy and print center. Fairly good use of technology and innovative supply chain management.

    Cons

This company is no longer financially stable. Generic products available just about anywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some help... Since the days of Bruce Nelson(the Ceo who wanted to really modernize the company) things have not been the same

    Pros

Great interaction with local business customers that provides an opportunity to build relationships and make a difference in the community.

    Cons

Company micro manages virtually every aspect of the operation without consideration for local demographics or individual store needs. Experienced managers hired to run each store are unable to manage their own locations and maximize potential of the area or the team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No one plan fits every store so utilize the talent available on a local level to make appropriate decisions that develop the business while meeting customer needs.

I worked at Office Depot full-time

    Pros

Good pay. Good talent. Decent experience. Decent work-life balance. Decent benefits. Room for growth. Looks good on your resume.

    Cons

Typical corporate atmosphere with typical incompressible beauracracy. To be expected. However there has been a shift very recently to the hard right, particularly in their HR policies since new CEO and merger with Omax went through. Employees are watched closely and encouraged to call hot lines if anything is amiss. The best talent in eCommerce have left in the past 6 months and there has been a round of firings with some of the last highest performing talent, leaving a gaping hole filled with mediocrity. This is still a decent company but if you are an innovative, talented, younger professional you might be happier elsewhere (like Austin or West Coast). If it's the only job in town take it for what it's worth, it's comfortable if you keep your head down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice to management. It is what it is. This is not Apple or Nest and never will be.

I worked at Office Depot part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I had flexible scheduling with some pretty cool managers at first.

    Cons

Management for pretty awful after awhile, constantly switching tasks while in the middle of one while being expected to get every customer in the store while management doesn't have to do anything, filed an HR complaint for a manager who was allowing the sale of drugs in the store after he refused to do anything when had solid evidence of such things happening and nothing happened to any of them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the lower level employees, and provide reasoning for some tasks that
     seem pointles .
