I worked at Office Depot part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I had flexible scheduling with some pretty cool managers at first.

    Cons

Management for pretty awful after awhile, constantly switching tasks while in the middle of one while being expected to get every customer in the store while management doesn't have to do anything, filed an HR complaint for a manager who was allowing the sale of drugs in the store after he refused to do anything when had solid evidence of such things happening and nothing happened to any of them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the lower level employees, and provide reasoning for some tasks that
     seem pointles .

I worked at Office Depot (less than an year)

    Pros

+ Discount covered everything (including electronics)
+ Worked with my school schedule
+ Days requested off were usually approved

    Cons

    - The training to prepare me for copy and print was bad. I was always having to ask for procedure clarification or ask someone to show me how to do something. I did not feel confident in my job.
    - The salesmen make the most money in the store, cashiers made more than printing associates just from selling PPPs. Copy and Print was twice as busy and had basically zero opportunities to sell "extra".
    - The "pricing book" was a dated concept. How hard is it to transfer it to the register for ease and speed?
    - Office Depot claims to be a green company and yet, tons of paper is thrown away instead of recycled.
    - What you learned one month will most likely be void the following month. You won't find out till you're reprimanded for doing something wrong.
    - Working by yourself during your shift with no breaks.
    - Having to juggle express services, large projects, quality checks, calling back customers after projects are completed, calling back customers two weeks after the project to see how they liked their projects, shipping packages, "shredding while you wait", cashiering when it's busy, answering the phone, dealing with old and dated machines.. all by yourself for minimum wage.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

great company, good people, friendly engagment of many things all around from print and copy center to technology. To over all customer satisfaction.

    Cons

Lack of pay, I'm a Tech there. I work on computers non stop every day, plus I do things outside of my job description outside of tech to furniture and cashier. I feel unappreciated at times when, a computer problem is fixed and no other tech can fix the issue. I feel overly utilized and extremely underpaid. 7.25 an hour does not cut a check to provide at the end of the month. Especially with lack of hours ranging from 18 - 22 weekly. Expect alot of your hours to be biased on sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I understand the merge is supposed to shut down 400 stores. By 2016 but you should really look at how it is. Happy associates, mean happy customers. You should take care of the people who take care of your company and help the ones who help make those sales for you.

    Pros

No pros really other than the experience will make it a great example of a culture you don't want to create.

    Cons

Bad upper management that manages by intimidation. breaks labor laws, under staffed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You get a ten percent discount. And there are a few good co-workers who know what their doing. They are usually good at giving time off when needed.

    Cons

You get one or two long days a week, and they usually forget to give you a break or lunch. They don't tell you anything that is going on, but expect you to know everything. The work environment is very bleak. Absolutely no color and it is difficult to stay in a positive attitude. A lot of immature people. And the customers are awful, grumpy old people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be a bit more color in the store. It feels like a morgue. The resgisters are placed badly and it is ridiculously hard to ask all the questions we are suppose to, answer the phone, and try and bag items at the same time. Also, there needs to be a better bagging system. Having bags folded under the counter doesn't work.

    A study in demanding hypocrites.

I have been working at Office Depot

    Pros

Coworkers were great when motivated properly, co managers were mostly greedy and would do anything to get rid of competition.

    Cons

Heavy favoritism among management and between management and part timers. Promised promotions that never happened on several occasions. Poor internal promotion pay rates- outside hires started 2-3 dollars higher than seasoned veterans with equal experience and qualifications. Part timers were treated like dirt and full timers were overworked. Internal theft was ignored for years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like people- not numbers.

I worked at Office Depot full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Exciting and dynamic projects.
Strong relationships built with team and cross team peers.
    Decent pay and good benefits.

    Cons

(Many) Managers generally rude to their teams and use yelling and profanity to get results rather than engaging in a professional dialogue.
    Long hours are expected.
General decline in respect shown to lower level employees.
HR is used as a threat, not a resource for employees.
    Promotions are from cliques.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restore an environment of professionalism and respect.
Execute a legitimate Open Door Policy...not what is in use now.
Demonstrate Ethics, don't just force a series of Ethics training that does not really get applied.
Value employees who are getting the work done in spite of lack of recognition by their managers.

I have been working at Office Depot full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Stable employment with benefits for full time.

    Cons

Completely customer oriented, leaving the employees groveling. Customers leave bad reviews because items are not in stock or they had to wait in line and it all comes back to the employee in a negative way. No incentive to perform nor opportunity to promote.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Occasionally back your employees and show them they're part of a team. The customer is always right to a degree and exaggerates all the time. Don't destroy what little confidence the employees have because the company can't keep items in stock. More than 50% of negative reviews are because items we not availiable and most of them comment how friendly and helpful the staff is.
