I have been working at Office Depot

    Pros

The copy center has many available resources that allow an associate to be able to resolve customer issues and provide products to fulfill their needs.

    Cons

Salaries are too low based on retail experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your associates based on their experience and you will get the best of the best, if not, you get what you pay for.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Typical retail job, perfect for a kid in college who doesn't plan on making retail a career. Some managers are respectable and personable.

    Cons

Low pay, weak training, no chance to move up, no benefits, hostile work environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Constantly dumping on the people who work hard and screw up once creates a negative work environment, especially when the people who screw up all the time face no discipline and continue to their negative behavior.

I worked at Office Depot part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It's a stream of income with happy people with special strengths.

    Cons

If there were a clear means to an end worth fighting for , I would have loved it here. The goal is to utilize the people you have, notice what they do best, and validate their unique opinions. Of course only the best companies do this well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More to the executive level:

Stop milking the hell out of your company by trying to compete with Walmart, Cosco, and the post office down the street. Figure out what you can do best and capitalize on it. Easier said then done of course.

    I worked at Office Depot

    Pros

Great co-workers, interesting work at times, fast-paced

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement despite getting stellar performance reviews and taking on more and more responsibility year after year. Finally gave up and moved on. Hope they can turn it around.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working in the copy center, I've become very proficient at Photoshop and using the Microsoft suite on a daily basis. You also get cashier and experience in working with the general public. If you're part time, you can apply and feed into a 401k after 6 months, and apply to get $1,000 a year toward business-related college majors.

    Cons

The pay grade is terrible. They start you at minimum wage, and you get a 1 percent raise a year. Unless you work in technology or at the cash register, you don't make any commission whatsoever. No health benefits either.
