    Pros

Hard to think of anything positive, aside from barely paying the rent.

    Cons

Poor management, they treat their employees like robots, and have no empathy for their morale. Virtually minimum wage, they patronize you by saying you make commission off of ripping off customers. The ethics behind their policies is questionable.

    Advice to Management

Strongly review how you treat your employees, and customer policy. There are no benefits to working. Having people work 40 hours a week and not granting benefits is deplorable.

    Pros

Not much. The pay and benefits were ok but not worth the way management treats you.

    Cons

This company is one of the worst I have ever worked for. Being a buyer for this company is a thankless job.

    Advice to Management

Management can start by clearing out the old long term managers that think they know everything.

    Pros

OfficeMax is a great place to work if you are a student. The only pros to the job would be money and experience.

    Cons

The managers I had lacked experience; they acted very unprofessional. They were not fully qualified and all they thought about was themselves. Employees are treated like rodents by the managers, instead of human beings. The treatment of employees by the managers will leave a bad taste in your mouth. The managers yelled at employees and didn't care to offend them. I informed Human Resources, but the managers were friends with those in H.R. I could not find a resolution with the company. I finally got tired of being treated like dirt from the managers, so I quit. Also, if you want to move up in the company, don't get your hopes up. You are stuck in your position, even if you have degrees.

    Advice to Management

Instead of treating your employees like dirt, maybe you should treat them like normal human beings. I went to the competitor and was treated a whole lot better. Did I mention that they pay more?

    Pros

They have a good incentive system to sell insurance on products. Every 6 months you get a raise.

    Cons

Girls are only trained on the register. It was extremely sexist. I was working there a year and when a new manager came in and asked me to do thing I had no idea how to do them. Also, this company will do literally ANYTHING the customers want because they don't want to deal with people. They will even return products that they never even sold!

    Advice to Management

value your employees more. they are mostly teenagers but that doesn't mean they aren't valuable. Be more considerate of them and don't throw them under the bus to please customers

    Pros

It's a job, pays minimum wage, if you're desperate, dominant and want hands on experience on becoming a leader under pressure through only your self virtue, I wish you luck.

    Cons

Little to no training, Understaffed department, Other associates not trained in print to help. Torn between customers at the counter, responding to emails, Helping self serve customers, and actually doing scheduled jobs solo and all at the same time while 3 cashiers idly waited for customers. The motto of the department was, if it doesn't work push all the buttons eventually something will. Paid the same basic minimum wage as cashiers, while working 3 jobs at once. Would not recommend.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees, no 5 minute videos to gloss over, take the time out of the day to train them. Put at least 2 employees in the printing center at all times, train some cashiers as back up.

    Pros

In the past, there was actually something to put here. At this point the only pro is that it's a job and it comes with a paycheck.

    Cons

Since the merger with Office Depot, it has become increasingly clear that this company does not care about its associates. We are no longer able to use our discounts and our rewards on the same transaction. We are not given the tools (like product!!) that we need to succeed at the store level. And the company recently eliminated holiday pay for all store-level associates without informing anyone - it was hidden in a change to our policy manual, but there was never any notification that the policy manual had been changed at all.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management is that they realize their store-level associates are what make them money. We cannot be held to such high expectations if you are not willing to show us any appreciation or respect. I have been with this company for three years, and entry-level positions at other retailers have more to offer me than you do.
