    My experience was very positive.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPeople were great to work with. The culture is collaborative. There was a focus on integrity, ethics and doing the right thing.

ConsOfficeMax was the third largest player in an industry facing a number of secular challenges. The challenges include people using less office supplies, furniture and equipment, combined with increasing internet competition.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop a strategy to overcome the secular issues facing the business.

    Love the Company

    Sales Consultant (Current Employee)

ProsI like how the company cares about its associates, as well as the customers. You are recognized for your accomplishments.

ConsThe company is too driven on selling protection plans on electronics. Some customers just don't want them. The merger is devaluing employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementWorry less about making numbers for the day and focus on the customer experience.

For College students, a good place to work

Services Center Associate (Current Employee) Bee Cave, TX

ProsAgain, this does not pertain to the entire store, but only to the Services Center (a.k.a print center):
-Colleagues have some form of formal education in Graphic design.
-Allowed a lot of autonomy in decision making.
-Ability to exercise independent judgement on best way to meet customer needs.

Cons-Services Center Associates payed the same as sales floor associates despite having three times the workload.
    - Merger with Office Depot is allegedly leading to entry salaries going back down to minimum wage (not confirmed at this time).
    -Stressful workload and customer demands.
-Many of the people that work on the sales floor are in no way trained to handle any of the equipment behind the Services Center counter, which means if you are short handed, tough luck.

Great company to work for before the merger with Depot, excellent benefit program and wonderful work environment

Business Development Representative (Former Employee) Garland, TX

ProsStellar benefit and vacation set up, enhanced beginning training program helped develop my corporate selling skills and polish a few rusty ones. Before the merger, advancement within the company was practically a guarantee. Excellent beginning pay structure with commission supplement, paid expenses, commission bonus, and base salary.

ConsAfter you make it past the first 4-6 months of working your sales quota ramps up to the 7 figure range which for a new division is unattainable. Less than 5% attain over 85% quota. That statistic makes creates a position in which you lose the incentive to "hunt," because no matter how much business you bring on, you will not be paid for it.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to encourage, train, and develop all talent and try and work with the VPS's to fix the glaring sales quota problem. However, since OMX is no longer a business entity then maybe all my personal issues have been resolved by the Depot executives.

Exciting place to work, especially during the back-to-school season.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe work environment is good, and it is a pleasure to work around new technologies.

ConsPay is not fabulous, and not much room to move up in the company.

    Good place to work

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) Cleveland, OH

ProsCompensation and benefits are fair within the retail industry. Always looking to evolve to be an industry leader. Allow managers to manager their particular store. IE very little micro-managing.

ConsCoordination between corporate decisions and implementation in the stores can be less than transparent and can cause confusion and unnecessary work.

Advice to Senior ManagementFlow of communication in BOTH directions from corporate to stores needs to be improved. Lack of understanding creates confusion, unnecessary work, inefficiency and loss off productivity.

Overall not a bad company to work for, I have had great experiences that out weigh some of the micromanagement issues.

Print Supervisor (Current Employee) Oxford, AL

ProsThey offer plenty of entry level positions to gain experience working with customers and products. Management has been helpful with training, time off, etc

ConsEntry level positions don't offer much above minimum wage but if you can sell then you can earn commissions. At the end of the day your still a number to upper management.

Best job I have had so far. Great boss and high profile position and learn about entire organization quickly.

Senior Analyst (Current Employee) Naperville, IL

ProsGood people, training, location, pay and opportunities to move up.

ConsSome training is lacking such as how to create PO's and knowing all the key players by business area is somtimes a challenge.

Advice to Senior ManagementMentor program would be beneficial in identifying key people to help become promotable.
