I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you work on the floor or the registers, its not that demanding and pretty laid back. You have room to help customers and give them full attention. If you are there for more than a year its easy to move up. From what I hear the bennifits from moving up aren't bad example insurance, vacation etc. Management (at my store at least) are hands on and help lower employees. A real team.

    Cons

I work in the printing department. Never work there if they offer it to you. The customers are the meanest, and you will NEVER get help. You are expected to do orders on the spot that should take days. Very very stressful for the same pay as standing at the register all. Oh pay is awful. You get one raise a year and the person who does nothing all year and calls off twice a month, gets the same raise as you

I worked at OfficeMax part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible management at the store I worked at, very accommodating with a student's schedule. Co-workers were on and off, but were mainly friendly and enjoyable to work with. Job usually stayed interesting and kept me engaged. Employee discount was a nice perk.

    Cons

Very little ability to improve upon skills or navigate to other positions. Moments where work became very repetitive. Point of Sale computers were a pain to work with as they are severely dated and frequently lock up causing awkwardness when checking out a customer.

I worked at OfficeMax part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible working schedule, get to work the floor as a sales associate. Good part time job hours. Great store manager that actually cares.

    Cons

Management can at times lack in training/oversight of new employees. Not much long-term growth opportunities working at the stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train new employees in every job area thoroughly. Offer more pay raises as incentives.

I have been working at OfficeMax full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

ability to move up in company after learning the basic tasks. Good pay, requires a drug test so you dont have to work with the lowest level type employees. generally a drama free work environment.

    Cons

broad workload for all stores, even those with smaller or larger volume. The store level management knows the store best, while the regional management knows stores by their numbers. There is a disconnect between store and regional levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More customized plans for different size stores.
